Good call as im sure hes scored a ton more goals than Robbie keane, however he was well way by it when he signed. The thread is asking most "high profile" at the time e.g a signing which you thought would never happen as hes still got it :50: I said roy keane earlier but after more deliberation im swaying more to Thomas graveson as he signed just after his best year at madrid, totally came out the blue for me and a signing i wouldnt have even bothered trying for as would have expected a heavy facepalm :smiley-laughing002:
Lots of great shouts there but is there no elderly users here that remember any crackers before the 00s?

Not old enough to remember but surely guys like Paul Lambert and Paolo Di Canio would have been pretty big coups. From what I've read I don't think we really signed many players before the 90s so I doubt there'd be many older high profile signings.

I think JVOH was a pretty big player at the time. I'm pretty certain I remember him starring for PSV in the CL quarter-final against AC Milan one or two seasons before. Him and Gravesen have surely got to be the ones because they were still in there prime and we paid big money for them.

I couldn't believe we signed Paul Lambert when we did. Just won the CL with Dortmund and was just some player. Loved Lambert

Think Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink at the time was a very high-profile signing.

    Jorge Cadette - Portugal International

All where massive signings, all where 'High Profile'

I'd say Stuart Slater was a pretty high-profile signing during Brady's stint as manager - even if he was * up here, still seen as a bit of a "coup".

I don't get the Gravesen 'thing'. He was a complete flop at Real Madrid!

The joke amongst the Everton support at the time was that Real thought they were signing Lee Carsley!

    * awful player. He gave headless chickens a bad name!

That's a good shout actually, not up there with the likes of Keane and Pierre when we got them but he was very highly rated in England.
