I read an article in Gazetta Dello Sport the other week where Del Piero said it had always been his dream to play alongside Lee McCulloch. Who can blame him?

Yeah, no doubt about it - this would be the main attraction for me.

But if it was a choice between signing Del Piero, or signing someone good who could be at the club for the next five years or so, I would be tempted to go for the more long-term option.

I still feel a lot of the Del Piero enthusiasm among our fans is about the name, rather than the gain - although I realise that you yourself are entirely objective, Dev... :icon_mrgreen:

But if you asked Watt or Hoops their opinion, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't agree with me...

One of my all time heros mate, just that wee bit away from the King of Kings himself.

I know what you are saying but I think playing with a player of Del Piero's quality would help every single one of our players for 5+ years. That can only be a good thing eh? and there is no doubt we need experience, we're screaming out for it. We are getting everywhere on the boulchyness of young players and the wise heads in Sammy, Scott Brown and Commons. Which isn't much.

I would be over the moon if this happened, cap of a perfect week it really would.

Imagining Alessandro Del Piero, one of the greatest strikers ever, pulling on the Hoops at Parkhead and' curling in a last minute free kick winner against Barcelona in the CL is giving me goosebumps.

    Forza Ale!

Del Piero is one of the biggest names in football ever, and to get him into a Celtic Jersey for a champions league game with our crowd could do so much for us in terms of profile. I understand the long term thing with a younger player but Del Poero could also be something great for Celtic in the long run.

he also a stadium filler and Im sure this is what PL is looking at. Champions league footie in Glasgow or Part time footie in Oz, thats his choice by the sounds of it.

    But im still very skeptical

Just thought about it there for a minute. Wow, this would be our biggest ever signing IMO. It would be a massive boost to Scottish Football as a whole.

Himself, Larsson and Michael Owen were my favourite strikers of the '90s. Would love him here. My mate said the Sun are running the story tomorrow. I don't know how true it'll turn out to be, but at least a big-name rumour like this gives us something to chew on until Lenny and Pete deliver some tasty transfers :50:

I suspect that is what will happen.

The Champions League isn't going to be such a huge draw for a guy who has played in it most years of his career, and already has a winner's medal in his drawer.

But who knows, people are people, they are not always predictable.

It would be a real blast to have him here, that's for sure - and that goes double for the players.

Would make us a buck on revenue. Dont get me wrong i would love to see him in the hoops, but i prefer long term rather than a flash in the pan.
