What constitutes a bona-fide Celtic fan

This is just amazing, really really amazing. So going by your argument I'm not a Celtic supporter and neither is my Dad, my grandfather when he was alive wasn't either because they lived in Dumbarton and I lived in the Renton and had no connection to Glasgow. Does the fact our (am I allowed to use the word our when talking about Celtic) first Captain came from Renton mean I can call myself a Celtic Supporter?

How far back do you have to go to have this connection, is the Grandparents rule applicable?

So Celtic was founded as a club inclusive of all, set up to feed the poor in Glasgow by an Irishman, had a sod of grass planted in the centre circle by the Irish Patriot Michael Davitt in 1892, had a tricolour presented to them by Eamon De Valera, again had a sod of grass from Donegal laid in the new Celtic Park in 1995 yet anyone born in Ireland has no right to call themselves a Celtic Supporter unless they have a Glaswegian in their family

Where in Glasgow is your father from? Should you maybe be supporting Clyde, Partick, Servco or any of the Junior or Amatuer teams?

I would point you to the Celtic Mission Statement and going by that then you are NOT a Celtic Supporter, because it states Celtic are a club for all and you clearly differ from Celtic's point of view.

This has got to be the biggest load of * I've read.

So because people are not from a certain area they shouldn't support a certain team? All the people that are from America, from Australia and even now starting in Asia, and have never been to Britain let alone Glasgow, shouldn't support Celtic (or any other team for that matter)? What utter bullshit!!

Maybe the Peterborough-living Man Utd fan started watching Man Utd from a very early age (as a lot of fans do) even if the parents never followed football. Maybe his/her family moved away from Manchester when he/she was a baby and then they started following football as he/she grew up (which happens with a lot of fans). Maybe that Peterborough-living fan looks out for their local team as well as supporting his/her main team which happens to be Man Utd (as I'm sure a lot of fans do as well).

I only have ties to Glasgow through some of my family, but only two of them support Celtic. I wasn't brought up in Glasgow. I am not from there and have never lived there, so going by your logic, I shouldn't support Celtic because they aren't my "local" team & I have no other ties to the area, but because I chose to support them from a young age, I'm not a proper fan? Who the * are YOU to tell people that they shouldn't support a certain team just because they don't have any special ties to the area or the team?!

Football is about the pride of supporting a team, no matter WHAT team it is that you choose to support, through whatever reason it is that made you start supporting them in the first place.

I see you're from London, so why don't you take your * out of here and go and "support" one of your local teams. You've got plenty of them to choose from after all, and I'm sure they are crying out for narrow-minded "fans" like yourself.

 

What about me? I started supporting Celtic in Melbourne, Austraila during the Hund 9-in-a-row years.

I then moved to The east end of Glasgow.

Am I allowed to support Celtic? If I move to a different city, do I need to start supporting a different team?

 

Just move to Stalybridge or Belfast and you can still support Celtic, just not Glasgow Celtic :icon_mrgreen:

My old man was a Leeds fan and wanted me to support Leeds when we moved back "up North" from London (work dragged my parents south and I was born and brought up in East Ham).
When my family moved back to the North; my Father took me to Hampden Park for the Semi-Final of the European Cup in 1970.
I saw Jimmy Johnstone and as they say the rest is history............
He had taken me to West Ham v Leeds in 1968 and I saw Moore, Hurst and Peters - I was hooked and still am to this day and was my first football game at the age of five.
I have travelled all around the world and met ex pats and Celtic fans of all type regardless of colour, creed or religion and the love of Celtic is the light that shines through.
Whether or not business is now the main aim of most football clubs; I'm no glory hunter but follow my beloved Celtic and West Ham for pure footballing reasons.
I have no Scottish heritage other than the fact my Nana and Grandad had a summer cottage in Loch Lomond!!
My Good Lady (* Bless Her) is of the Govan persuasion, as are all her family of ex-pat Glasweigans.
We both live happily in the Southside.
All of the Celtic Family I have met have relayed my story, which isn't by no means unusual, because whether we like it or not; all football clubs attract elements of glory seekers and hangers on.
When business takes over you have to take the good with the bad - just as any GENUINE Man Utd supporter about having to justify his existence.

I live in the states, so obviously I can't make it to Celtic Park, but I follow the team, watch he games when I can (Afternoon, morning kick times are odd here).

I wouldn't pretend that I'm the same as those of you who have been to dozens of games, but I care enough to get on here, which counts for something.

 

You are a Celtic supporter the same as anyone else.

 

My gran has never been to a Celtic game, watched a game off her own back or even put a £ in the club, but it pleases her on a Monday morning on the radio to hear that Celtic have won. I'd consider her a Celtic fan.
