Site rules don't allow attacking the poster just the post so that's exactly what I will do.

So going by your theory Lee every Celtic fan who lives outside Glasgow or whose family doesn't come from Glasgow shouldn't have the cheek to even consider supporting Celtic.

Maybe your Da's family need to teach you about Celtic's founding father's who were Irish. Does that connection not give someone who is Irish the right to call Celtic their club also?

Then of course we have many of those very same Irish families who came to Glasgow in the 1880's who eventually moved out of the city to every other town and city in Scotland and eventually to all corners of the world. Could that not be a large reason why so many Celtic fans can rightfully going by your logic have the right to call Celtic their team? If it's good enough reason for you to call yourself a Celtic fan then logically others have that right also?

    * why stop at being Glasgow born why not make it a rule that only players born in the home town can play for their local team?

I'm fully aware part of your argument is to do with brand association. Of course it * well is. Celtic are a business today just like every other major football club.

Well boo hoo, Celtic happen to be very good at it and if that goes against attracting what you class as a non bona fida supporter then so be it but that kind of arrogance will leave you in the minority. People with such views - always have been, always will be!

Your argument is so full of holes & I challenge you to meet up with anyone on this board the next time you make it up to a game and walk into any Celtic pub and make the same statement. Of course you won't do that and I think we all know why.

Mate, I've boxed professionally and to a VERY good level...

Not being funny but spotty nerds, keyboard warriors and fat balding men are not going to intimidate me...

This is the interent where, believe it or not, you'll read things you don't agree with.

My granda was from Glasgow! Yay! I'm a real fan!
(Thank * for that - the thought of all the time and money I've spent over the last 47 years supporting the club being for nothing was starting to worry me...)

However - on a more serious note, I get where the boy is coming from regarding glory hunters who may change their allegiances depending on who is at the top of the table.
The bottom line though, is that if you support Celtic then you are a Celtic supporter. Some people are hooked by a headline-grabbing championship win, and then form an affinity with the club that never goes away. Whether their initial reason for supporting the club is laudable or not is a moot point.
Others, like me, come from an area and a family and a school and a background where there was NO other team. Before I knew what football was, I was a Celtic supporter. My granda was a Celtic mascot in the 20's - Jock Stein was my great granda's apprentice down the pit. I have never had, nor ever wanted, any choice in the matter. I was virtually born a Celtic supporter as most, if not all of those in my situation were. I don't consider myself any more of a supporter though than Ranjit Patel who came to Scotland last year and decided that he was going to be a Celtic supporter...

Rather entertainingly, you could - for all we know - also be a spotty, balding geek of a keyboard warrior yourself, however. The wonders of the internet.

Having read the majority of the utter drivel that you have spouted (in my opinion), i'd be more inclined to believe this was the state of affairs if truth be told.

As a footnote, the boxing line was was cringeworthily entertaining. Like anyone gives a *? For all any of us know, you could be an International Ludo champion (or say you are.) However, it is of utter irrelevance.

A supporter is someone who supports. Sounds alarmingly simple as an interpretation - and that's because it is. This whole "i'm better than you" malarkey reminds me of pishy playground chats between 5 year olds. Christ almighty. What a bore.

I'm one of the lucky fans who happen to have Celtic as my local team since I was a child and have a 100% celtic-orientated immediate family.

In no way is this a threat or anything of the sort, but if someone was to come out with the nonsense that a poster has previously mentioned on here about who is "eligible" to support Celtic and who isn't would receive a swift kick to the baws in certain places.

    No-one I hope...

I was just responding to an allegation that I wasn't brave enough to air an opinion in a Glasgow pub...

To be honest, irrespective of whether you were Mike Tyson, i'd suggest there would be little bravery involved given your thoughts dude - it would simply be suicidal stupidity!:56:

Celtic is different in that and it is a pity you do not realize this. Our club attracts fans from all over the world, but not for the reasons you seem to claim.

You go on about supporting you small unsuccesful sides and that is commendable. If I, as a foreigner, wanted to support a real sucessful side I would support a club like Barcelona and ManU. Thing is, Celtic may have its share of gloryhunters, but these gloryhunters are not likely to come from abroad (because there much more succesful clubs out there).

As a foreigner with no connection to Scotland or Ireland (although I lived in Glasgow for a year), I have always felt accepted by the entire Celtic family. Every family has its black sheep and it seems I finally found him.

A bona fide fan supports his club through the good AND (more important) the bad times. That is the bottom line.

To answer the question, a bonafide Celtic fan. Somebody who genuinely feels elation when we win and are gutted when we get beat.

Who knows our history, who feels pride in that history.

Thats a bonafide Celtic fan to me. I know guys who go to every single game and I know people in Austraila who are up at 4 in the morning to watch games when they work at 8.

Both are bonafide fans. Both love the Celts.

Bona-fide Celtic supporters stick by each other through thick and thin and against anyone attempting to belittle them..........as one unlucky poster has found out :bbpd:
