I see parallels with Aldo and GSP.Both champs for a long time, but both fighting a lot more defensively(relatively speaking) the longer they held on to their title.

Not that i blame them in any way, but i suppose constantly only fighting guys in the top 3, fight after fight takes its toll!

Really? I can. After seeing Mendes give CM a bit of ground and pound, im convinced that is the most likely way he will win.

Mendes is a wrestler though. And if McGregor can take the elbows Mendes threw at him, he'll be able to take anything Aldo can throw at him on the ground too in my opinion.

Well, we will see. Youd have to guess he will do his usual and target the legs of CM.If he succeeds, it will be interesting to see how it affects CM's mobility.

Really looking forward to it now.

To be fair, Mendes was exhausted because he'd come in on short notice. He gambled on the early finish via submission and it didn't work. * happens.

If they both fought again with actual training camps I think the fight would look a lot different. Not saying McGregor wouldn't win, but Mendes isn't known for gassing.

As for Aldo knocking Conor out? It most definitely could happen. One thing I've noticed is that whilst McGregor is a top class striker, he's not hard to hit. And he's never been hit by someone like Aldo.

    It's going to be fantastic.

Mendes was exhausted and was gassing because Conor's vicious kicks caught him in the torso on the inhale.

    https://twitter.com/thenotoriousmma/status/621993686323179520

Mendes only had a short amount of time to prepare for Conor, but Conor only had a short amount of time to prepare for Mendes. He also admitted that he did barely any training to defend against Mendes' wrestling because of the short notice.

Mendes also said he is in the gym every day and is always ready to fight.

I know Aldo is unlike anything he has ever fought before, but has he never been hit by anything quite like Aldo? I'm not so sure. Leg kicks? For sure, Aldo is a different animal to anything Conor has ever faced. But Conor was caught by a Mendes right overarm and countless massive elbows to the head and didn't look even close to being KO'd in my opinion.

I do think McGregor will win and there's not much doubt in my mind, but I do of course appreciate just how good Aldo is and I'll have to hold my hands up if he holds his crown. It'll be some fight without a doubt. :50:

The biggest weapon against a vicious right kicker other than a takedown is a straight left.

Connor has the best left hand in Featherweight history, I don't think people realise how big a puncher he is because of all the other * about movement and fluidity and all the talking and the rest of it.

Watch any of his fights, he sparkles people with shots he doesn't load up on. That is a * given natural ability.

Another reason I wholly believe Conor will do the business on the 12th.

I still think Aldo will take this. There is a bit of magic about the guy.

His face didn't look so magic at the end of the Mendes fight.

Of course Mendes said he was in the gym every day and is always ready to fight! What did you expect him to say? That he's jumped in on a few weeks notice and isn't in actual fight shape? Of course he's going to say he's good to go and thinks he'll win.

When your boss comes to you and says that he needs you to jump in at the last minute as a favour and that he'll pay you more than five times what you made in your last fight, you probably go ahead and do it.

As I said, I'm not claiming that Mendes would have beat McGregor had he had a proper training camp to get in shape, but the truth is he would have been better equipped physically to fight.

I think you would have to be extremely naive or be looking through some tri colour tinted specs to think that the Mendes Mcgregor fight would have been the same type of fight had Mendes had a full fight camp.

But he didn't and lost so that is that. :smiley-laughing002:

Yes.One of the first fights i remember seeing on UFC on Bravo Tv was Frank Mir beating him.

Dont remember much about him though, but im sure he either got disqualified or severely warned for something in the the fight, or it was a return fight as the previous one had been a disq.

Something like that.Big 6'8'' blonde git!

No way man :smiley-laughing002: That was one of the first UFC fights I saw as well. Here's me thinking I was the only one who remembered him :smiley-laughing002: . Aye Sims got disqualified for stamping on Mir while holding the fence. Mir dominated him in the rematch though. That was back in the day's when I thought Mir would never lose that belt :shamrock:
