    Morning all.
Obviously we still have the job to finish at Celtic Park but with one foot in the group stage i was wondering what seed we would likely be in the draw. hoping for 3rd

4th seed unless there's 3 or 4 upsets in certain qualifying games (can't remember which ones)

Got to think its job done for Cluj also (Thank * we never got them in the draw)!

Can see Malaga giving Panathanaikos a game, not sure how Limassol will get on against Anderlecht though :54:

Terrible that the champions of a league seeded 18th need to play two qualifiers just to get into pot four :38:

It makes very little difference nowadays, there will be Pot 4 teams that are stronger than Pot 3 and probably even Pot 2.

We can moan once we get there :56:

The SPL isnt ranked 18th, its currently sitting 27th and is 3 places below the Swedish League.

This season too, embarassingly. The SPL has only picked up 0.8 coefficient points. 45 "best" in Europe out of 53. Only Leagues whove done worse are Estonia, San Marino, Albania, Faroe Islands, Wales, Andorra, Lichtenstein etc :52:

Celtic got 3 points, St Johnstone got 0.5 points and Dundee Utd got 0.5 points. Hearts havent played yet and Motherwell got nothing. If the SPL wants to improve its coefficient we should ask UEFA to only give us 3 places.

Think they should get rid of seeding altogether. Fair enough, in some ways it does make a lot of sense. But it benefits the better teams massively over the smaller teams. It's the Champions League, first of all it should be for Champions, and second of all, it should be non preferential. How are teams like Celtic, or Limassol ever gonna get to a final or anywhere near if they're constantly paired up to the likes of Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, PSG etc.

My bad - got the data from here: http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/index.html

was assuming that last years end position is what determins which pot we would have went in.

Wouldn't it be pointless asking for our european places to be reduced, even if we get beaten badly, i take it you can't get minus points?

Champions should automatically go through to the group stages regardless to their countries seeding in my opinion.

Pot Four. But as has already been said, it doesn't really matter nowadays.

The total points get divided up by the number of teams you had in Europe. This year Scotland got 5 teams in Europe so our total points get divided by 5, even though Celtic are really the only team that registers any sort of points.

If we only had 3 teams in Europe, then Celtic would only need to pick up 3 points to get the SPL 1 point, but as it is this season Celtic need to pick up 5 points to get the SPL a point.

The Leagues ranking doesnt matter anyway, as the other teams are never going to do anything. And we should make it into the CL through the Qualifiers atleast 2 out of every 3 attempts. We just need to make sure we get enough points to remain seeded in the CL qualifiers.

I doubt we will end up in the last 16 this season regardless. I would like to see some proper glamour matches.

    Ideal group for me is.

    Barcelona/Real Madrid
    Man City
    Dortmund
    Celtic.

Would love that, some cracking matches... Cant wait to see Celtic play away to Dortmund with all fans singing YNWA

I would love to got to a Dortmund game, have a massive soft spot for them. If by chance we drew them, I would do all I could to get there.

Been saying this for * ages. The Champions from the top 16 seeded countries in Europe should go straight in and the Champions from all other leagues should play in a play off for the remaining places. This 4 and 5 teams from 1 country getting in is nonsense. Fair do's alot of brilliant teams would be missing but it would make the whole tournament more interesting and give lesser teams a better chance of progressing. Would also make domestic leagues 10 times more competitive and If 2nd placed teams got into the Europa League under the same rules, it would also make that tourney amazing as well. Or they should just stop calling it the Champions League and go back to the European Cup.

Pretty sure we need a near miracle to get to pot 3 but who cares...as long as we're in there! :50:

too much prestige would be lost in the competition if that was the case. I understand and am board with the principle completely, but in reality it just wouldn't work. The Europa League would be stronger than the Champions League group stages.

You're absolutely right. I agree in principle (and because, of course, I love a club who would benefit from it), but it would simply never work. Think about how many people make fun of the Europa League because of its lack of prestige and lack of quality teams? If say the semi-finals of the CL were Man City vs Montpellier and Real Madrid vs Dortmund people would be screaming all day long to let a Utd, Barca or an AC Milan in there. The viewing would go down and they would lose ridiculous amounts of money by not having these European giants.

In saying that, I would love to see teams like Montpellier and Ajax in with a real chance of winning it these days, but it simply couldn't be like that. Football more and more has become an industry and because of this we will never be able to introduce such rules.

This may seem pessimistic, but does anyone know what pot we'd be in if we were to qualify for the Europa League? Just wondering haha!
