Welcome to the forum lad (from Orlando, FL). Make sure you have Fox Soccer on at 2 on Wednesday to see the hoops in action!

National team gets national TV when it plays, MLS is having one of it's best years and EPL is almost always on ESPN. So it's getting there.

When I was a boy growing up in a suburb of Rochester, NY (in a town called Greece), the soccer league there was the second largest in the world. That was the early 1970's.

Soccer in the US has, for the past 40+ years, been an extremely popular participation sport. But this hasn't translated to great numbers flocking to stadiums like it has with other sports in the US, and is the reason the Rochester Lancers (NASL Champions 1970) folded, as did the NASL-- even as the league brought in some of the world's best players (who were past their prime, including Jinky and Bobby Lennox).

The US women's team is the best in the world (Abby Wambach is from Rochester), and Marta, the world's best woman player, played for the Rochester team before the WPS folded last year.

For some reason, I don't think soccer will ever be a major sport in the US, in terms of being able to compete with the NFL, basketball, baseball, and even ice hockey.

Welcome to the forums Lion, have to say this place has some of the finest Celtic fans around. Short of going to a game, you'll find the best banter and the most passionate support.
