Matthews or Izaguirre

I would say 27-33.

Full-backs are usually still really good in their early 30's. Cafu, Carlos, Zanetti, Cole, Lizarazu etc etc

Taller full-backs though usually peak at 26-31, ones like Thuram, Maicon as they seem to lose mobility quicker.

Just because he is going through a slight bad patch doesn't take away that he is a * of a player.

 

I'm sure Izzy will find his form again. Unfortunately he's still suffering heavily from that horrific injury and of course it's gonnae take time for him to recover.
For me going by recent form especially has to be wee Adam. He hasn't put a foot wrong in probably any game I think I've seen him in so far. On a consistency basis particularly at that age he is excellent.

 

I'm not sure. You could make a case for either of them.

 

Izzy is a defensive liability at the moment for me, the amount of players getting past him is worrying and he does try to be too fancy coming out of defence. Last night he lost possession on a number of occasions that could have been costly.

Matthews at the moment hands down is the better player.

 

Izzaguirre.

He's one of the best LBs in the UK/Europe when on form.

 

Matthews Defensively and Izzy for his attacking threat. Think Matthews just crosses from deep to often and Izzy is always caught out high up the pitch.

 

When they are both at their best I can't separate the two, but at the moment Matthews is the better player.

I really can't see any of them staying with us for long.

 

Right now, and seeing as I could only vote for one, I'd have to say Matthews is the better BUT if they were both playing at the top of their game I would have said that they were as both as good as each other.

Izzy in his first season with us was immense, but since coming back from his injury has been a shadow of his former self. I'm hoping that whatever the problem is with Izzy, whether it's a confidence thing or whatever, he can overcome it, as it would be great to see both players playing great football and terrorising teams down the wings.

If Izzy can get back on form then with players like him, Matthews, Forrest and Commons (who has improved again) going down the wings will be fantastic to see.

 

Weve got so many great players but theyre never all on form at once. I wont pick as Izzy had a real scare with his injury and.it takes players some time to play without fear then get back to their best.

Adam is a class act also but can have shakey games.

Izzy is struggling just now but when you look at how good they both can be, you help but think we are solid in these positions. Both are so good, and amazed to think adam is only 20.

 

Mattehws for the simple reason that he is a RB and Izzy is a LB

Its just that I thikn right sided players are bettter than Left sided players in General as footballers

Maybe I'm biased because I'm right handed though

 

Im not just singling out Izzy here. Any player would struggle to play at the level he can play at after such a bad injury

 

Izaguirre without a doubt. Nothing wrong with how he played last night either, even if he isn't at his best right now.

 

When both are their best then its izzy for me.

 

Matthews has obviously put in some work during off-season, and thankfully avoided injury all of last season. He looked a little jaded near the end, as well, so it was good to see Lustig signed.

But Izaguirre is still the superior player. He just needs some tough, conditioning training.
