There has been lengthy debate on what type of players are needed at Celtic; target man & centre half, but let's say we could only get one..........(let's face it it's a possibility)

    Which would it be?

    Target man striker

    or

    Centre half

    Target man.

Really struggling up top in my opinion.

Target man for me. What we seen yesterday from Aberdeen will be repeated by the majority if not all of the teams in the SPL. Murphy offered something different for us and he might be able to make the difference(although his previous record doesn`t suggest it).

In an ideal world I would like both.

    I'm not picky.
Defender definitely. We need a strong defender as I think we have enough fire power just now with people like Hooper, Stokes, Commons, Samaras etc.

Would love if we could get a Mjallby or Balde type of defender in.

Centre Back. Both are absolutely required but that slightly more.

Target man for me. We've set clean sheet records in the last two seasons with the same defence, minus Loovens, Cha and Majstorovic, as we have now. Imo SPL teams are unlikely to threaten, but when we're playing poorly and not scoring we need a plan B and a target man would give us that option.

To give ourselves a fighting chance in CL a defender has to take priority. Unless our strikers plan on outscoring the opposition, I'd say a decent platform at the back to build from is essential and would give us the confidence to go and play a bit especially in the away ties where our focus is more on defensive shape and composure. But as we've been told by the Lennon we wont pursue a big target until we know our european fate.

What do those statistics have to do with being good enough defensively for European opposition?

Center half is the blatantly obvious the #1 priority. We'd all love to see both but without an experienced CB we are going to struggle in defence. Will we get one or both? Time will tell.

Centre half. There's no competition really, as we're pretty good when it comes to scoring goals. Look at Hooper and Stokes' stats so far as proof of this. You also have the likes of Commons who can chip in with important goals, as we seen yesterday.

Our defence, on the other hand, is horrid and has been for some time. We all know it's good enough for the SPL, but what does that say really? We definitely need another experienced centre back, maybe even two, if we want to progress in the CL.

Centre back, it's the weakest part of the squad. Experienced one would be great, but it could cost a few bob and that may be the problem. There doesn't seem to be willingness to spend more for player in that area whereas midfielders and forwards are coming for relatively high fees.

CL or EL, it's a priority. Current defence may be good for SPL, but standards should be set higher than that.

Target man, we're too one dimensional up front without one and Saturday showed that when things aren't going our way we just can't change our style up front, plus I'm not Stokes' biggest fan at the best of times.

JVOH left us in 2009, which was only three years ago. Bit of an exaggeration.
