Pink Floyd without a doubt true poinears of music and despite all the changes of members ect ,still managed to come out with truly amazing groundbreaking music .

The Beatles are pish btw :bbpd:

    In my humble opinion:

    1. The Clash
    2. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street
    3. Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band

The whole "best" debate really depends on what you are ranking by. If it is popularity it would be the Beatles. Generation defining maybe the Who/Jimi Hendrix Experience/* Pistols/The Smiths/The Doors. Ground breaking maybe Captain Beefheart or the Mothers of Invention or Pink Floyd. Sheer talent maybe Queen, Led Zep (leaving aside their musical theft), Cream? But seriously anyone who thinks Oasis are the greatest ever band needs to be introduced to a wider range of music!

If we go for sheer talent, I'd go for Primus.

Great and brilliant band especially live, but their latest albums just don't have the same magic anymore imo.

Not really, if someone reckons they are the best band, it is THEIR best band. May have some proper good memories of their band, or that their songs have an extra special place in their heart etc :50:

I love Oasis, but I don't think they are the best band.

Pink Floyd are an amazing band with amazing songs, but * me some of their songs are utter pish, as with le Beatles imo.

I genuinely couldn't give the label of "best band" to one, I love music and can't decide?

Yeah maybe. But I would argue "favourite band" is different from "greatest ever band" as "greatest ever band" implies a degree of logical comparison and musical awareness. "Favourite band" is just that.

Saying Oasis is your favourite band as it reminds you of youth is perfectly sensible, in the same way saying John Collins is your favourite player (he was mine when I was younger) as you wanted to play like him when you were young. But saying Oasis is the greatest ever band is just as daft as saying John Collins is the greatest ever football player.

I suppose so, but on the other hand if you think their music is fantastic, then obviously you would think they may be the greatest?

If you read many a poll, The Beatles are classed as the greatest band many a time. I don't agree with that.

Minty has many a time posted RadioHead as his/the best band ever - I'd rather slit my wrists than listen to them.

    All about taste :50:

The greatest ever band is The Killers.

Anyone who disagrees put your mitts up and we'll have a fight about it.

Pink Floyd are a band I found it difficult to get into. An old flat mate loved them and played me their songs, he had all the vinyls, but I'm not sure I gave them enough of a chance.

Metallica is a great shout, I'd say they're the best ever metal band if you were to try and split it into genres.

And I always find it ironic that Mr.Brightside is played at weddings and parties. It's such an emotionally raw song in my opinion.

The Killers had the potential to be great, their first album was near perfect but then they just abandoned the sound and went for this mainstream American arena rock sound. The first album has the great synth parts and fantastic guitar work from Dave Keuning but after that I don't know what happened they just got a lot less interesting as they started writing increasingly blander and more populist "anthems". Some of the stuff on Sawdust is fantastic but again that was all written during the earlier years of their career.

Every time they bring something new out I always give it a listen in hope that they will rediscover the Hot Fuss sound but that new one is the same as the previous two albums. It's not even like they evolved their sound as some bands do, they just abandoned it completely and seem to have settled into being a completely different band.
