But pre-1970 we managed 2 European finals. Nottingham Forrest has won the european cup twice, Aston Villa, Steaua Bucharest, and Belgrade have won it, and Reims have made two finals in you go back long enough. Are these clubs to be considered "eilte"?

It is also worth nothing that pre- 9 in a row era we only managed to win 1 Scottish league title once and came 2nd only once since WW2!

So outwith a 10 year period of success in our 125 year history, I think it is fair to suggest that we havent been even close to being an "elite" club in Europe. We may be a big club, with a big support but we are kidding ourselves on a bit we think we have any right to be an "elite club". If we can dominate Scottish football and can cement our place in the top 16 of Europe, that is a massive achievement and well above our long-term historical average. That is more than good enough for me - I see nothing in our history to suggest we are entitled to expect anything more than that.

Any club who has been to 3 european finals, 2 being the big cup and once wnning it, and the other the uefa, can be classed as one of Europe's elite surely?

Yes - but we have been no where near that level for some time now, and unfortunately consider ourselves as "elite" when we cannot even make the Champs League group stages year in/year out mate.

This is a good point and one I never see mentioned.

If people think Parkhead ticket prices are bad then for the sake of your heart rate I hope to * you never go to the footy down south!

Even small teams like Norwich, Southampton, Wigan ect will charge way, way more than us for a game.

As far as i'm concerned the EPL for Celtic is a dead duck.I will continue to take this attitude to the matter until * freezes over because we've got just about the same chance of that happening as Celtic being accepted.
In saying that, you just never know...the bubble must burst doon there sometime...surely they can't go on commanding the ridiculous figures we see banded aboot.Sky TV may deem Celtic in the EPL as an economicaly no brainer..so i'll never say never.
For now though,i'm happy to dream of a good European run and hopefully dominating Scottish fitba for the forseable future.
Another point to note is the opposition by lower league clubs to Celtic breezing right into the top flight...i can't see it happening unless there's a financial gain to be had for them...I liken it to Sevco's situation...i mean,80% or more of the football supporting fraternity in Scotland would've done their dinger if they had been allowed into our premier league...Different circumstances but same thing in theory.

There is no place in EPL. Get over it. There is no space or mechanism to join the league.

    Take that in

Im not too sure. The EPL continues to grow and they have just started to open up the frontier football markets of Asia and Africa. If top English teams can tap into even 20% of the sports market in nations like China and India think of the potential growth. Of course their plans for expansion may fail, but clubs are no longer restrained by geography. Every club in the EPL is a potential global brand with global exposure, and they are tapping markets that having a growing affulent middle class with a new found interest in football. Sadly, I do not see anything to suggest the EPL bubble will burst anytime in the near future.

The only way I can see us joining the English leagues if one of their clubs go bust and we get called in to replace them.

Other than that, there is simply no space to put us in.

On a selfish note, as I live in England, I would love Celtic to one day play in the EPL. However, I don't see it happening.

    * boring, didn't even bother to read after the title...we really need to stop talking about playing in the EPL or in England in general. It will NEVER EVER happen and quite frankly I wouldn't want it to happen, I prefer keeping our proud Scottish history intact and not whoring ourselves out to the English and Murdoch's corporate fascist machine. It is imperative that we concentrate on helping the rest of the Scottish game overcome the immediate financial difficulties - There is no denying that there will be serious difficulties, not on the Daily Record propaganda scale but difficulties nonetheless - and trying to improve ourselves as a club by qualifying in the Champions League. Not to mention there is a real possibility of us, if it were to occur, playing in the EPL for 10 years without European football and no amount of money would change my mind. Same with the majority of Irish people supporting English clubs, * disgusting. p.s * all huns, hope they NEVER play in any football division EVBR again. :50:
