Magic, convinced the other half to stop off on the way back from Austria.

Thought I might stay outside of Amsterdam, somewhere like Utrecht and just train it in, then at least Ill stay the right side for driving back to the UK on the Sunday. Something was telling me not to book the return ferry/tunnel for the way back, now I know why.

I think that we should give Frank de Boer some flowers and a box of chocolates to say thank you for inadvertantly helping kill Rangers.

All I remember him doing at the huns was missing a penalty at Hampden I think against Dundee United.

True. I don't expect any trouble either. I've been to Ajax-Celtic at least 3 times and the only time I remember any trouble was when we scored a late winner (George McCluskey?) in the European Cup at the old Olympic stadium, way back in 1980. Then again, that was party our fault - we went with 2 girls and thought it'd be safer in the stand. We got on fine with those around us, but my stupid M8 had bought tickets that placed us in the corner next to the hard core Ajax fanatics, who tried to climb over the fence to get us when they saw our colours & we went bonkers when we won. We ended up getting a police escort out. Then, again, that was partly becuase the birds with us were both DDG.

However, that was an isolated incident. Today, the Ajax fan sites are buzzing with positive vibes about Celtic fans. "They bring a fantastic atmosphere..." "the best & friendliest supporters in the UK ..." "party gauranteed..." etc etc

That is good to hear. Celtic is always very popular in Europe (apart from a minority of hun teams). I am sure we will have a great time with the Ajax fans.

Do Ajax not have a pretty hardcore right wing element to their support which could cause a bit of a problem? I think I'm right in saying it might be wise to watch where you are if you're taking a Palestinian flag too.

I'm in Amsterdam the 18/19/20th already, so just going to change my flights for this.

I have two Dutch scarves, both with good Celtic lyrics on them. One would go down well and one would probably cause a bit of trouble lol :celt_2:

They do have a hard core element, who associate themselves with Ajax's strong Jewish heritage, and have even been known to display Star of David insignia/flags to rile the fascists nutters from other clubs - e.g FC Den Haag .... (who taunted them for being "Jews" & sang about gas-chambers - they thought it was funny FFS...).

However, most of the Ajax hard core are too thick to even recognise a Palestinian flag, and we've got a good vibe going with them, so no reason to expect trouble.

What I read today on their fan sites suggest thier more bothered about us outsinging them...

Sorry, but Ajax haven't announced the ticket arrangements or allocations yet, so I can't be 100% sure. I'll try and keep you posted. But, you might want to note that Ajax's usual policy is that visiting supporters should buy tickets from their own club (i.e Celtic). However, it's only a friendly and - although it's probably too early to say what kind of ticket demand to expect from Ajax fans, my gut feeling is that it won't be a total sell-out, so getting tickets even on matchday at the stadium will still be possible. Tickets sold offically by Celtic will be for "Vak" (section) 417, 416 , 415 and so on downwards. Anything from 414 down to 409 still means you're at "the Celtic end"

Thanks for that. It seems Ajax has not yet confirmed the fixture (at least not on their website). Hopefully everything gets confirmed soon, so people can make the necessary arrangements. I can imagine it will not be easy to find a decent hotel at a decent price for July on such short notice.
