Thommo parts company with Celtic

Hmmm...It's an interesting concept TAB, but will it ever catch on? :icon_wink:

 

Sad to see Thommo go but we need to move on. Can't let this affect our team.

 

I think I'll put my trust in the club doing what they think is best for the club.

I can't understand some of the criticisms on here given that we don't know the whole story!

 

Away on holiday, no papers, no Internet, no phone reception, in the back * of no-where! Just in the door, turn on the computer to this! Can't believe it.....

Hopefully the facts will come out soon, hard to put together exactly what has happened from the thread.

Have to say whatever the truth, Alan Thompson was a great player for us.

Ps. No more holidays to places without shops and Internet.

 

Disappointed to see Thommo leave and even more disappointing that he seems to be leaving under a bit of a cloud.

 

Disappointed that he's left the club like this. Angry too.

 

Shocked to find out about the news of Thommo leaving the club. Was a favourite player of mine when he played for us - especially for his hunskelping abilities - and was pleased to see him back at the club in a coaching role.

I know rumours are all over the place with this which is to be expected but I wish some people would wait until the official news is out on why he's actually left the club instead of reading Twitter * and rag tabloid "news" and passing judgement on either the board or Thommo before the true facts are released.

Hope that we find out the truth soon on what has happened so that the rumours can be put to bed.

Really wish Alan all the best with his career and in life.

I know that I'll miss seeing him at the club.

Alan Thompson issues Celtic with legal notice after sacking


Former Celtic coach Alan Thompson has begun legal proceedings against the club after he was sacked on Sunday.
Celtic insist the first-team coach was sacked during a telephone conversation because he "refused" a meeting with manager Neil Lennon.
Thompson's lawyer says legal action has been instructed, but is at a preliminary stage.
Earlier, she had revealed her client was informed of his sacking during a phonecall with Lennon on Sunday.
A spokesman for the Scottish Premier League champions claimed a planned meeting of the two men had been set up in Newcastle on Sunday, which Thompson refused to attend and was subsequently sacked over the phone.

Statement from Alan Thompson's lawyer

Thompson's lawyer said in a statement that her client is upset about the development and wishes to resolve the matter quickly due to his long-term association with the club.
The statement reads: "Alan Thompson has been dismissed by Celtic football club after enjoying years of first-class football both as a player and first-team coach.
"This included playing at the very highest level, both domestically and in Europe, then coaching the first team to become league champions.
"He is profoundly disappointed, given his strong feelings for the club, but remains deeply proud of his long and successful association with Celtic.
"Legal action has been instructed and is at a preliminary stage, however, Alan wishes this all be to be resolved amicably with Celtic, given his acknowledged feelings for the club."
On Monday, Celtic released a statement outlining the club's position, but did not provide any further details on what had happened between Thompson and Lennon.
"Alan refused to meet with Neil, hence the reason for the discussion being conducted by telephone," said the club.

Thompson was appointed by Lennon in June 2010 alongside assistant manager Johan Mjallby following the sacking of Tony Mowbray earlier that year.
The Englishman previously won four Scottish Premier League titles and five domestic cups as a player at Celtic during a six-and-a-half-year spell in Glasgow.
He was also capped once for England and featured in Celtic's run to the Uefa Cup final against Porto in 2003.
He had a coaching role with Newcastle, with whom he started his playing career, before he returned to Glasgow to be reunited with former team-mates Lennon and Mjallby at Celtic.

Not trying to be funny at all, but I thought that was a very poor choice of words to say the least... Very poor journalism.

 

That's not just the reporter, but the editor that's dropped that clanger.

Yeah... I find it very hard to believe that the writer never noticed the reference.

while reading it the thought never crossed my mind until you mentioned it, i think you just want there to be something in it to be honest m8

 

I don't mate honestly, I never notice these types of things usually but this one stood out pretty clearly to me. Maybe it's just me.
