You mean to tell me teams in the Championship are paying 5 million pounds for defenders? That's the depressing part to me lol. That's what Leicester signed him for.

I'm surprised we're talking about spending 3 mil on him. I'm all for scooping up talent when they fall out of favor with a manager, but seems like a lot for a defender who may be a bit of an unknown quantity. When I think 3 mil, I think an up-and-coming striker, OR an experienced, proven defender. Realistically, the only proven defender we will get will be around the twilight of their career, but doesn't mean we can't pick a winner to do a solid job for 2-3 years, which is about the length of time you're lucky to get out of anyone these days w/ a fluent transfer market.

 

No disrespect to any player, but, what I'd give right now for a Reaper, and Stubbs, or a Bobo and big Johan

 

i'd go with this, we got the ball playing defender in Mulgrew maybe could do with another one for back up and then get something in the vein above as you mentioned who are beastly and strong as * just to put fear into the opposition, they don't have to be a hack and slash player as times have changed but if we can get something like that to partner Mulgrew and it should be a perfect balance

 

With Leicester signing Richie De Laet, signing Mills could be alot more straight forward now that the proposed Kelvin Wilson makeweight idea.

 

I'd be happy with our centre halves next season being Rogne, Mills, Mulgrew and one more centre half maybe even give Loovens another contract considering he's done well this season. With Wanyama playing there if need be.

I'd be happy with signing Mills.

 

It's a case of betting it all on red isn't it.

I've got to be honest, I know very little about this guy.

 

I'm happy with Charlie and Rogne together at the back, with Wanyama back there if we play 352 and Izzy & Matthews on the wings, but I agree we do need cover at centre back and I really hope we are looking at somewhere other than the Championship.

I know Hooper, Ledley & Matthews have been quality for us but apart from Adam none of the defenders we've got from the Championship have been good enough. Loovens, Wilson, I don't want anymore money wasted.

I want us to either buy a proper European quality centre back for 4-5 million, or buy no1 at all in that position.

 

For me, Rogne is that player.
Charlie takes it down and plays it calmly out of defence, Rogne just boots it clear and heads it and acts as a stopper. Granted, he's nowhere near as hard as a Balde or Mjallby, but I think him and Mulgrew are our best defensive partnership, infact they're probably the best partnership at the club, seeing as the Stokes-Hooper pairing seems to have gone off the boil in recent months.

I know sometimes Rogne has been bullied in the air and dominated at the back, like by McElbows at Ibrokes but at the same time I remember him completely outplaying and outmuscling Jelavic and Lafferty in a derby game before, so I wouldn't count him out because of one or two bad performances.

Rogne and Mulgrew for me, unless we can get anyone DEFINITELY better than them, then don't bother spending any money Lenny.

 

Entirely agree with everything AwesomeCaz has just posted above. We need a CB with proven European experience - a good, big defender who's solid in the tackle - and if we can't get someone who's going to improve on what we already have, we're better not to bother.

 

Live in Reading so used to watch the guy a lot.

Terrible attitude, falls out with players, fans and managers. As captain of Reading he gave the finger to his own supporters. Makes rash challenges and decisions on a regular basis, terrible passer, blames others for any mistakes. Gives away far too many free kicks/penalties and gets sent off too much.

My mates who are Reading fans were laughing when they found out they'd got 5 million for him! Not many at Reading were sad to see him go, and after the loss of their 'best centre back' they won the Championship..

Is no better than Mulgrew or Rogne and is apparently on 40k a week at Leicester..

 

Sounds a bit Terry-esque....

 

In terms of having a billy-big-bollocks attitude then definitely! Think signing him would ruin the morale of the squad..

It will still take something spectacular to beat the John Carew to Athletic Bilbao one, it should have been a sackable offence for the hack and the sports editor to come up with such drivel.
