I was saw the second half of Barcalona game tonight and it got me thinking, could we use the 3-4-3 formation?
I think Charlie Mulgrew might be better as a left sided centre back than a full back. Izaguirre might be better as a wing back.

I'd imagine you'd have to be able to nail the offside-trap spot on every time for it to work to the best of its ability.

Its something that I would love us to try. We have a lot of great midfielders and even then we wouldn't have enough room for them all.

Who would play on the right? And if Brown, would Jamsey play in the front 3 or would that be Sammy & Stooper?

I remember there was talk of Lustig being able to play on the right hand side of a back 3 when he signed so it's maybe something they're thinking about.

Jaurez could maybe play as a right wing back as well if they tried it.

Wouldn't do any harm to try it in one of the games between now and the end of the season I suppose.

Matthews and Izzy like to get forward and get crosses in, Charlie gets the ball down and brings it out of defence like Puyol does, so it's not actually that crazy an idea.

We would really need to up our energy and stamina levels though to play the way Barca, Bilbao, Napoli and the other great attacking European teams do.

Matthews and Izzy have pace but at the moment I reckon if we tried that versus the top teams we would get destroyed on the counter.

That sort of formation has to be implemented and learned over time as well, all the players need to know exactly what they're doing and have to carry out their role perfectly.

Like with Barca, not only do they have supremely talented individuals but they all stick to the task and help each other out, all their players even the forwards get back to help out and break together etc so for us to play 343 properly we would probably have to start doing it everyday from now all through the summer and maybe by next xmas we would be good at it!

Lennon has set out his stall as far as formations are concerned. The entire club is geared up for a 4-4-2 formation with slight variations now and then.

Doubt we'll ever see 3 at the back for any length of time other than in a certain game or 2....as Mjallby has hinted at after signing Lustig.

    .................Forster.............

    .....Lustig.....Rogne.....Mulgrew

    Brown....Kayal......Ledley.......Izzy

    .....Forrest....Hooper...Commons

Subbed Izzy for Sammy as with a 3-4-3, we would need to be tight defensively on the wings. However, it would also half Izzy's defensive burden with Mulgrew behind him and allow him to attack at every op. Also chose Commons over Stokes as he plays really well with Izzy behind him. I'm really hinging the whole thing on Lustig's ability to play RB in a 3 man defence like some are suggesting. Haven't seen evidence of this myself so just going on faith on that one. Juarez could possibly be a choice here...

I like the 4231 we used on sat. Dont like 343 too risky.

Stiffling Mathews is not a good idea ,that young man is one talented player ,but he and Forrest would struggle to get in to a team with that formation .

Im sorry but to me we could just stick any 11 players out there just now in no formation.....just like a Sunday league team.....and we would still win the league.Maybe not as easy, but we'd still win it.Scottish football is at an all time low......and we are genuinely the only decent team in it.

Don't see Lenny playing it, but that actually looks quite a strong line-up to me.

Of course we COULD play - would it work though...?

Maybe domestically, at times - but certainly not in Europe, regardless of opposition.

As for the Barca comparison/mention... :icon_mrgreen: love it and would love if we COULD play like they do, but let's be honest - we're probably a season or two away from that... :icon_mrgreen:

I know it's upside down, but surely you could have guessed the Scott Brown discrepancy? :56:
