The abuse he was getting over the past few years until his recent resurgence this season was really horrid. He's been a good servant to this club and you honestly can't find a more faithful player. I mean after all the abuse he got from the stands from Celtic's own fans and he was acknowledging it, sometimes coming off the pitch visibly shaken etc... Its just shameful. And he still wanted another contract with Celtic, after all that. He still wanted to prove himself further and show his commitment. What a bhoy, here's hoping he hits his big 5 - O this season.

One thing that I really admire in modern football is a loyal player. Can't say that I've seen many more loyal than Samaras here in recent years.

We would have won the final if he'd started.

He has all the attributes to be a terrific player and I think Lenny's brought out the best in him this season. He just seems so much more confident, taking players on, not giving up on the ball and knowing when to play a pass. I think he'll reach 50 this season, he may well have a key role in the team after the league is wrapped up.

This, it's always great to see among modern footballers.

I completely agree here. As fans, we demand loyalty from guys who do this for a living (and so might make tough financial decisions sometimes), but the quickness with which people turn on a player or manager is the height of hypocrisy in my opinion. It kills me to see sometimes.

I'm delighted with the way Samaras has been playing. He is one of few in our team who could compete at a high level in Europe, and one of few who could cause top quality defences any genuine problems with his direct running. Then again, I said all of that when he was getting booed off the park earlier, and was shot down in flames by many on this forum. Markybhoy was particularly relentless in his criticisms and had a habit of just aimlessly criticising Sammy without anything to back it up.

The people that booed him should be ashamed. For one he is a good player, and two, we should never ever boo anyone playing in the green and White hoops, regardless of how bad they are. They should get nothing but support from the stands.

^ I'm in total agreement with you he is the one player in our squad that consistently causes bother to best teams we play. Be it against them or in Europe. Massive mistake by the management team not to play him in cup final v killie too. Never hides and I look forward to see him in the euros this summer as I think he'll shine there too. for some * reason he is made a scapegoat a lot of the times but thankfully and justifiably died down but no doubt will return if he plays a poor game or two. These same folk should have a think of all the players that have let us down in big games Sami has usually been the best on our team or one of the best on these occassions. He will only get better too as coming into his prime years.

That's a decent point mate and if his persistence is not down to loyalty then he must have thicker skin than a Rhino's * cheeks.

True, but its not just the fans, footballs clubs are the same, A footballer can be loyal to a club for his whole career and be a great player, but if the club thinks the player is surplus to requirements they will get rid of him in a heartbeat, for example roy keane at united. For that reason I think players should look after themselves only in football, eg Wayne Rooney getting as much money out of United as possible last year, he was spot on.

He should reach 50 then if theres about 10 games and he only needs 2 goals, but I wouldnt be suprised if he doesnt as you dont ever expect him to score. Samaras scoring a goal is a bonus.

Oh, definitely agreed... I was more just talking about the specific case of Samaras and the abuse he got over the years while he wasn't playing that well. There were comments like "oh I don't want loyalty from a player like that" ... it was ridiculous.

I remember at the start of his first full season here and he was on a scoring spree, a few people thought he'd end up finishing the season as SPL top scorer. Just wish he'd find that clinical edge again.

Maloney maybe but not with McGeady. Sameras has played more than half his games up top. He only moved to the left this year.

I would love Samaras to score the goal that wins the league after the stick he has had in his time with us

Yes and he's one of the rare players at the club, who knows what it's like to win the title.

He scored some crucial goals in the run in as well, late winner at Motherwell and the only goal in the game against Aberdeen at home.

He played on the left under Strachan too, he's probably played well over half his games for us on the left.

I would say he's played all of his games on the left, even when he was meant to be up front :icon_mrgreen:

Glad he is finding some consistency to his game, he loves Lenny and Lenny is managing to get the best from him. Long may it continue.
