Not only did this guy save us when everyone else was rubbing their hands waiting for us to die but he gave us stability and a new stadium ....:50:

He did - and he also completed his main aim of aquiring a sizeable profit whilst helping out the club that he held affectionate.

He got the best of both worlds.

Also love what he did to the press too ..kicked them out of that nice warm glass fronted box at the top of the main stand and stopped providing them with pie and bovril at half time :50:...the very people who wrote with happiness about our demise at the time :38:

Don't see the problem bringing up the huns as an example though, merely used as a comparison to see what could have happened to Celtic, note could have happened.

Its like every time someone mentions the huns in Celtic chat you get shot down because they shouldn't be mentioned since they are dead. Frankly if there is a valid comparison to be made and the huns are being used as that said example then whats the problem.

Not saying you are like this Padmill but at times its like people go out of their way to make sure their name isn't mentioned, its like you know who rather than... Voldemort.

Sorry for the Harry Potter reference, but i thought that too was a valid comparison...:52:

Fergus was a smart businessman that saw an opportunity. He of course did the club a massive favour but at the same time he wasnt a philanthroper, he was a business man who made a lot of money from seeing potential in Celtic that others missed.

He may be one of the very last to make a significant return on rebuilding a football team, but thank * he did!

its true we would have been in rangers position if not for he put his money were his mouth was at a time when a few others messed around with promises so yes a statue is exactly what he deserves

Like I mentioned previously, the cause of their demise was totally different to the cause that almost cost us our demise - the two cannot be compared imo.

And probably a lot more than ever, I do like to think they should now be a "voldemort" type creature :56::56::56::56::50:

Ok Fergus did save us no doubt about that , but the biggest thing for me is Fergus must have known the road the Huns were going down .
He left us on a solid footing while the Huns had a one way ticket to Armageddon , I will never forget his words "I will leave this club in safe hands " and here we are today with Dermot and Peter , Fergus McCann THANK YOU SIR

I am not one of fergus,s fans but i do respect what he done and i do thank him for putting us on an even keel rebuilding our delapilatted ground and his business brain was better than the kelly,s but his praise came in the monies he made and nobody will convince me otherwise he said he was gonnae make money and he did why do you want to now build him up even higher. I know we would have survived without him we might not be in as good shape as we now are but we would have survived
without our input he would have had nothing he rallied us so for that thank you fergus, maybe we should have a statue for us and our parents, grandparents our dedication and support madeth these millionaires and i for one will never let them forget hail hail the celtic fans everywhere past and present.

I like the idea of a statue for the fans. Just make a statue of an everyday average person with a plaque saying " "football without fans is nothing" - Jock Stein. A tribute to the entire celtic family" Or something along those lines. Would be a good gesture from the board after everything the fans have done for the club :50:

I still can't believe we haven't re-named one of the stands in honour of Brother Walfrid.

Agreed. He was always compared unfavourably to the largesse of Minty, but time has shown that The Bunnet knew what he was doing and that the Ibrox mortgage was unsustainable.

    Hail hail Fergus.

You would think it was a crime to make momey through the club.

every player in the first team is being paid handsomely for their efforts. They would be off immediately if that wasn't the case. If he made money while helping celtic, all the better.

At least Walfrid has a statue. It is definitely more of a crime that Fergus has never had a statue created in his honour, nor has he ever had a stand named after him.

It is because of him that we still have the same football club we had 125 years ago. Not every club (a certain big one springs to mind here) can say that.

Far too early to recognise McCann imo, it took the club long enough to do something for Stein/Lions/Walfrid.

We have others who could get plaques, statues etc in their honour like Maley of the our first great team who did the six, * we have loads of history and men who would benefit from the club doing something:50:

Personally I'd name Lennoxtown after Fergus, it took a while to get there but it is his business model that it typifies and supports.

And I'm all in favour of inviting the wee man over to unfurl the flag in August on "Bunnet Day" :icon_mrgreen:
