Fergus had a 5 year plan and made this clear to everyone at Celtic ,He said after 5 years he would walk away from Celtic with a profit ,
It was reported he walked away with 40 million pounds [I don't think he did but that was quoted ] He promised a Stadium ,We have one of the best about ,He promised us a winning team ,which he did. And most Importantly he promised he would hand over Celtic to the new man in charge with Celtic in a great position financially .

Fergus was a businessman firstly and a Celtic fan ,like it or not he did interfere at times but really only when players like Pierre ,Cadette kicked off when they spat the dummy out ,he had a plan as a business and he stuck to it ,Hail Hail to the man for what he achieved in such a short time ,The man is a Legend in my eyes.

But you wanted Lawell to put us into further debt to do that. Have you learned nothing from the situation that's going on right now?

If clubs don't want to play ball for a reasonable price then we shouldn't be held to ransom and Fergus would be the first to back Lawell on that. Sure you can say aye but it would only be that one time, but pretty soon you end up like the huns.

If there's a petition to get him to unfurl the next championship flag it'll get my signature.

I bet he had something like this day in the back of his mind the whole time, too.

    Thank you, Mr McCann :shamrock:

I'd be giving him statues, naming a stand or something.
    He saved us from extinction.

Might have been tight but we're talking on TalkCeltic because of this great, tiny little man. :50:
But if unfurling a flag is all we can get my signature would be straight after yours sir

I went a wee bit teary reading the OP there :52:

Our club without his legacy does not bear thinking about. The hearse outside Parkhead, the baying mob wishing we would die and the bankers straining at the leash to lock the gate to Paradise for the last time. I for one will never forget any of it.

Thank you for saving my club Fergus, you are everything the current huns board isn't and more :shamrock:

Only now are we able to get a sense of perspective of what Fergus McCann did for our club.

It was hard for everyone at Celtic watching David Murray throw millions of pounds around like it was nothing, but my * the wee man has had the last laugh :ynwacelti

I'm ashamed to admit I booed him the day he unfurled the flag, I also booed Brian Quinn, I've also been critical of the current board...

Suddenly I feel like a * idiot, the long term plan of the club is finally starting to make some sense.

I was there the day he unfurled the flag to a chorus of boos, I couldn't believe it then and still can't now!
He made decisions I thought at the time were poor but never crossed my mind to boo the man that saved and galvanised our club.
    * bless Fergus Mccann :celt_2:

    I'm not picky.
I don't understand on how anyone would be able to hold a grudge against the man who saved us. He came in with about, what, 30 mins to an hour before the receivers came in and rescued the club.

He may have been classed as a "penny pincher" or "tight pursed" or whatever but looking back now you can understand why (if he ever was any of those) he would have been a bit tight with the money. Times were changing and football clubs were starting to be run as a business and as a business the money had to be looked after. Oh and if he was classed as a penny pincher I don't understand why AFTER him acting as a guarantor against the clubs debts, forked out money to completely re-build the stadium and * know what else.

I think he done excellently in setting the club up for the future, to look after the money and to not spend outwith our means and it is NOW paying benefits and I think has been for some time now. A lot of people were wanting on-field success but I think that if he never made it secure behind the scenes first we would be in Hun FC's shoes right now. They paid for success on the field (literally) first and to * with the finances and now look where it's got them and they * deserve it as well.

I know I'll always be grateful to Fergus McCann for saving us and setting us on the right path.

One of the few times i've been ashamed of our support. many many many celtic fans let themselves down that day. it tarnished what should have been a day of great celebration and was unjust to a man who ultimatly was Celtic Football Clubs Saviour.....we should have been carrying this guy around in a sedan chair instead of treating him so shabbily.

Fair play to you mate - it takes a man to admit he's wrong.

I would like some sort of Fergus McCann appreciation game (we know he doesn't need a testimonial) but something like we had with the old bhoys man utd game for Oxfam/John Kennedy earlier in the season.

Maybe the team that stopped the ten against the Seville team with Henrik, Jackie Mac and Lambo having a run out for both.

    Thoughts?

Thats in the past.. You are big enough to admit you were wrong and I,m sure Fergus would understand some peoples frustrations given what we had just been through.

Its about the future now as unlike the HUNS we have one ... HH mate :celt_2:
