Whoever decided not to give him a contract after what he's done for us in the previous 2 Champions League campaigns and particular the qualifiers should be fired.

 

I miss sammy

 

Clutching at straws.

Sammy's lackadaisical * would not have helped us one jot tonight.

 

I'd rather be with one of our highest European goalscorers than without.

 

But his proven goal scoring ability in the qualifiers would have been helpful next week when we need at least 3 goals.

 

Our attack, ironically, wasn't the problem tonight though. Yes he may have scored from one of our many wasted set pieces, but he missed more headers than he scored.

What we needed tonight was a defence and a midfield. Not an occasionally brilliant often terrible left winger.

 

He was our most proven champions league goalscorer, he more than likely would have better than Berget but the board were too tight yet again.

 

Whilst the attack obviously wasnt the main problem, if we had kept Sammy I am confident that the ball would've been help up far better than it was giving our defence a chance to push up & compose themselves. Think we missed Scott Brown most tonight but having Samaras at the club would have helped tonight imo.

 

Needed Sammy - his out ball was required.

 

Exactly he would have done a good job at keeping the ball and slowing down play tonight

 

Some serious revisionism going on here lads. Despite his height Sammy was dreadful at holding up the ball. Our sole tactic over the last few years in Europe away was:

Fraser makes world class save.
Fraser pumps the ball long to Sammy on the left wing.
Sammy loses the ball to a stronger defender.
Ball goes back to Fraser.
Repeat.

Sammy may have been over 6 foot but became 3 ft 9 when he jumped. He was the weakest attacking player i've ever seen, too nice for his own good. He would not have helped us tonight at all.

 

Holding up the ball doesn't only mean in the air. His ability to slow the game down and beat 1/2 defenders certainly helped us in Europe. He was always calm in possession and that helped others when they needed a pass.

The big man was far from perfect but, I would rather he was still here and think having him would benefit us in this tie.

 

Sammy would have been great tonight

 

We need him back

 

Agreed, it could possibly go down as one of the worst decisions made by this club in the last decade.

Samara was our only player that was capable of taking the ball for a run, even if the outcome wasn't always great he'd allow is time to get out shape back and relieve pressure. We had no one in the team capable of doing so last night..

 

You drink too much.

 

Anyone that thinks sammy would have scored any or more than 1 last night to save us from the cluster * that's our defence is in dream land.
