G'n'R if I had to chose, but not really a fan of either band.

Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains/Nirvana would've been better options, Seattle bands, same genre and all that.

    Ooooh controversy. Agreed.

Nirvana are the most overrated band in existence.

Since when does YT determine a superior artist? :56:

    Here's a couple for you:

Justin Bieber (Mistletoe) - 93.8m views
    Rebecca Black (Friday) - 30m

That is like comparing Metallica to the Clash. It is 2 completely different styles. G'n'R should be compared with other LA 'Hair' bands, like Motley Crue & Poison etc, whilst Nirvana compared with the likes of Soundgarden, Mudhoney & Pearl Jam etc.

If nirvana are overrated then how come one of their albums is the most sold of all time.
    Nevermind 10 million copies sold

Mainly listened to Guns N Roses in my youth, would have to say Nirvana were better though. Still though the original Guns lineup would feature above Nirvana on the list of bands I would go and see live if I could time travel.

Record sales do not talent make. all it proves is that they have a huge machine behind them fronting their music. case in point - Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne

i'll need to abstain from this vote because i really hate them both. i think if they weren't so overhyped i reckon i could bear nirvana if not for the hypw, but i cant bear hear folk talk about kobain as if he was a genius. they were ok

and as for g 'n' r, again they are no bad but why the 28 week guitar solos for no fathomable reason? and again hugely overrated

Guns n Roses have far, far more range to their music. For example, can you imagine Nirvana covering a Paul McCartney song? Idea is laughable.

    Love this:

Someone needs to have a re-listen to Nirvana, haha. The guys, such as Nirvana, that were involved in the grunge movement had so much in common with 'metal' bands.

And Nirvana were far more famous, and ridiculous looking, than GnR's ever were. Do you even know what 'pop' means?

    It's quite simple = popular.

As a poster earlier said, Nirvana have one of the best selling albums of all time. GnR's never reached their heights.

My favorite version of that song.

For me its the Guns. I dont think Nirvana would have been as big as they are if Kurt didnt bite the bullet. A couple of good songs and thats about it.

lolwut? The main reason he killed himself was because he couldn't cope with the amount of success they had. They were pretty * big.

I think they were both quite good, but both overhyped!

Aye im not saying that they didnt have big success, but alot of people talk about them as one of the best bands of all time. IMO they were average and if he didnt kill himself they would have broke up shortly after and been remebered as a decent band. Thats my opinion anyway.

No denying his death had an impact on their success, sad though that may be. Kurt wasn't exactly a sane individual. They were 'getting' big, sure, but they certainly hadn't cracked the egg.

They did cover a Bowie song very well though (The Man Who Sold The World).

Personal preference is Nirvana, though I actually quite like both bands. :50:
