If that's true, then it's because English fans are normally very ignorant when it comes to Scottish football. I know this because I've visited a few English clubs' forums in my time and whenever the SPL is brought up in conversation, it is simply dismissed as a "pub league" and the rest of the patter that they come away with. Again, this is mainly down to the lack of money available to us up here.

England is not the entire world though mate. Just because there are some folk down there who don't care about the SPL or the players playing in it doesn't mean that everyone else is quite so uninterested. As I said, there are millions of people worldwide who follow Celtic and will be well aware of who Gary Hooper is.

Let me give you another example. James Forrest was announced as one of the "Top 100 players to watch in 2012" by FIFA yesterday or the day before. Forrest is a product of our youth system and has recently been attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham (Premiership title contenders). Now, if the SPL was as bad as everyone makes out, would Forrest really have been on that list along with some of the world's biggest footballing prospects?

Those are the sort of people who really shouldn't be called football "fans" then. If they know nothing about the Championship and claim to follow English football.

This whole Hooper thing has been totally blown out of proportion anyway. When reading what some of your fellow Southampton fans thoughts are its bizarre!

    http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?35026-Gary-Hooper/page12

They seem to think he'll be handing in a transfer request on Monday, which is totally plucked out of thin air! The English media are pathetic and arrogant.

Rubbish on both counts my friend ....If you wanted to compete then why sell one of your most valuable assests to raise money when you say you are owned by Billionaires who can splash the cash ?

Because you were at the Dell you couldnt compete ?? dont get this it had a footie pitch just like you do now whats the difference ??

£4-6M for a player who is proven in europe is an insult of the highest order ...We know the spl is not the best league in the world but every player is worth something !! and southamptons estimate of Hooper is way too low :38:

Because he was only on a short term contract because of his age and wanted to go, we've always had the policy of not forcing players to stay if they don't want to. £12million was also ridiculous money for him and most Saints fans agree it was good business.
Because it was a 15k stadium so we had way less revenue then the others. We're now in a stadium twice the size and have fully paid it off.
£6million would be right for him, I'd be annoyed if we paid more then £7mill for him, even Scott McDonald was banging in goals in your league and look at him now. I would only pay £6mill because he's young as well.

It is the world if he wants to get in the England team though, it's as simple as that unfortunately.
Yes, like I said scouts and professionals in the game will obviously follow Celtic, just the majority of fans don't. We also have Luke Shaw who Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd want, but won't be getting, following the other young players we've brought on like Walcott, Bale and Chamberlain in League 1 and the Championship.

Scott McDonald in his last year at Celtic wasn't really getting games with us and is now 28 so I never expected him to take the Championship by storm and not really sure why you did either. Celtic managed to get a fee of £3.5million for him at the age of 27/28 and we bought him from Motherwell for about £750,000 when he was 24/25. It's a pretty poor comparison by all accounts.

Gary Hooper is a totally different ball game as he has already proved himself in the Championship plus has already cost a pretty healthy fee, £2.4million. He's also young and English which apparently adds value to you as a player these days.

28 is prime age for a striker! It's a pretty good comparison because it shows it's easier to score in the SPL for Celtic then the championship.
Yeah but value is all relative as well, it depends what else is out there, when you think we paid £1million for a 28 year old Lambert who Hooper won't score any more then. £6/£7 mill would be a fair price for him, just depends how much you need the money and how much Hooper wants to team up with Adkins again and play in the prem.

Haha love how you're kind of forgetting the part where he is loving it at Celtic plus has no reason to leave.

We also aren't in ANY need of money as your forum Southampton friends keep saying, but then again they are using the "Old Firm" term as if both clubs have the exact same financial problems which really isn't the case.

Hooper has reiterated again and again that he is happy here.

    He is going nowhere.

would probably sell for no less that £10m and it also depends if he wants to languish mid to bottom of the EPL fighting relegation or playing in front of 60,000 and winning titles & trophies then testing himself in europe ....Putting a national shirt on isnt the be all for players , national teams DONT pay the wages :86:

Talking to a few people today it seems this one has legs. It seems the player wants to join. Celtic may be forced to sell."

Love how mislead the English press are making this story, they aren't quoting a thing from the Celtic manager or the player himself EVER.

Hooper is here and he is happy and if he left he wouldnt take a step down back to championship football why do you think he left scunthrope and rejected other english clubs to join us.

Southampton fan :"50 goals in 95 games for S****horpe, 38 in 65 for Celtic. That's an awesome record. Unless we're using the publicity of these bids to hurry along another transfer I reckon there is a chance we can land him. The club will know if he wants to come or not so wouldn't bother bidding if he'd prefer to stay in Scotland."

Southampton fan: "As good as Rickie's record who cost 1m?"

They really are deluded, Rickie Lambert played League One football before signing with Southampton and had no where near the sort of record Gary Hooper has.

I had a look at that Saints forum posted a few pages back and they seem a sound bunch of lads. Nothing but good things to say about our support, although I did notice someone on there with their avatar as Gazza playing his imaginary flute in the 90's. That was weird and seemed oddly misplaced on a Southampton forum.

I just don't see Hooper going down there though. One of his main priorities may be to get himself into the England squad, but there's nothing to say he won't be able to do that up here.

Last time I checked it was Rangers who were doomed financially and Celtic were financially sound... how wrong was I? In all honesty the Southampton fans should do a bit of research before posting about Celtic. It's laughable how mislead they are by arrogant, lazy journalism.
