I don't mean in a footballing sense - we are all in the same boat there.

I mean in terms of the club as an institution.

Having monitored many threads, both past and present that pertain to such debates, I have come to a certain conclusion:

Our fans are NOT guilty of the same levels of hatred, as those of a certain other club. However, what strikes me about a good section of our fanbase is a nauseating self-righteousness. We have a fantastic history and enjoy proud links with Ireland and republicanism (small 'r'). We also have an incredible support that almost no other club can match for passion, loyalty, and tradition. We should never apologise for this!
However, what this DOES seem to have, is an unfortunate 'side effect' - and that is an attitude that you cannot ever question our Club or its holier-than-thou support.

I mean a forum like this is one there to spark lively debate - but it seems if anyone tries to hold our own club or its support to account over something (anything!), they are immediately cyber-lynched by internet zealots. And I have to be honest, you will find that on forums for any club because some people simply can't accept or don't want to hear certain truths. However, with us, I feel much of it is borne of a belief that we are better than everybody else.
    That is an unattractive quality.

So - am I a traitor for saying this? or are there others out there who feel the same way?

I don't understand this argument that fans who support the Republican nature or the Irish connection are somehow sneering at other fans. From my experience on this forum recently I'd suggest every person who has proclaimed their support of Irish republicanism etc have been respectful of other who don't. Its been the ones who don't that have been using words like moron etc.

Aye I know what you mean, its seems that anyone who doesnt like Republican songs think they shame the Club and are always ranting about how they should be stopped because we are the best fans in the world etc

The argument is not about republicanism pal, the point I was making was that this is just one element within a fanbase that is very 'self-aware'. If I didn't make that clear, then my apologies:50:

That's what I'm getting at mate. Altho it's not just about republicanism (I'm a republican), it's about the overall perception of the club that we have somehow been bestowed with divine providence.

i don't think it's that clear cut, it's more to do with the fact that some people are using celtic as a soapbox to express their views. i mean its a football club. not a political organization, that's were the divide is coming from.

Go ahead then, I'm enjoying your trolling.

I have never once said I have a problem with those not wishing to sing the songs, so I'd love to see your proof. I've retaliated to those who have slated and called people such as myself and numerous other fans as 'morons'

You are not a traitor as far as i am concerned.

I think one of the main problems is that most of us are football fans, first and foremost, but some of us take it further and dont seem to understand those that just love the football side of things. We were not brought up to be republicans or nationalists or religious or whatever, we just loved fitba as a wean, picked our team and stuck with it.(even if most of us were heavily influenced)
Yes we may have subsequently gone on to learn the history, or what many of the songs mean, but we still prefer the football over everything, and those that take it all more seriously, seem to take a lofty and sneering stance towards us!

No way have we got the best fans in the world, ridiculous thing to come out with aswel. Hate that cringey statement.

Dunno who has either, don't even know how you would measure something so complicated.
