Unfortunately cutting out certain chants in a fOOtball stadium is completely different from stopping marches in public. The SNP or any other government wouldn't be allowed to do that so there's no point greeting about the big bad SNP. I'll be * if a few songs is going to ruin my countries one serious shot at independence with a stupid * campaign against a Government that can't do anything about it.

In America they have KKK and * marches. In Sweden there is a * march, in Scotland there are Orange and Republican marches, in England there are BNP and EDL marches and countless marches throughout the world that don't reflect the feelings of the majority in their respective countries.

For some reason, and I don't know why, maybe because people pay to go there, I have no idea, but for some reason it's different in a fOOtball stadium.

Apart from your SNP comments it was an excellent post.

The UEFA should go take a collective dive off a bridge. A lot of clubs sing songs about the desired independence of the ethnic groups they belong to, but only Celtic is punished. *.

i dont know what songs we have been charged for? specifically.

I was watching the game stoke v tottingham the other night and a horrendous song about adebyors dad, elephants and his mam being a slack woman (not goign to write it as its sick) were clearly heard.

now i find that far more offensive thn any of our songs could be. however because us and rankers are in the lime light atm over these songs everything seems to be blown out of context. its not a new "problem" and people are only taking the moral highground to benifit themselves.

Personally I'd be glad to hear 'up the ra' eradicated - it's a rather pointless add-on. There is a lack of intelligence with said chant, as opposed to singing BOTOB etc which actually have a meaning behind it.

Been in contact with my local MSP for a number of months, had two replies which as per every MP and MSP don`t answer your points and all but call me a bigot because I don`t share his/his parties view point. He has on several occasions failed to address a number of points raised and quotes " THE POLICE HAVE ASKED FOR IT AND THEY WILL GET IT". Consultation with no intention of re-considering their options, no intention of listening to the opinion of people who vote them in.

Like his party my MSP has no intention of listening to others,he and his party have their majority and seem willing to do what they wish with it.

Well it's a good job we are all entitled to an opinion Celticbhoy isn't it :56:I should point out though, that I am not a member of the Labour Party, nor would I ever be a member of the S.N.P., could never forgive them for voting with the Tories, in the vote of no confidence, against Labour, which resulted in the introduction of Thatcherism.
The position as it stands right now is, that the S.N.P. proposed these "anti-sectarian" bills in the Scottish Parliament, and fought to gain support for them. So realisticaly, and democratically Salmond and co. have to be accountable to the people of Scotland, and stand by their belief, of creating a non sectarian Scotland, which incidently, includes outside football stadiums. Our Club, have been held accountable for an alleged action of the Celtic fans, so I find it hard to accept, that S.N.P. shouldn't rid the streets of Scotland, from these marches

gawd been said millions of times before what does the ira have to do with celtic? we can argue about rights BUT this was bound to happen at some point and whether you agree or not its a fact that if they are sung it can hurt our club

Is it actually confirmed that it was "up the ra" they were chanting?

The IRA killed people, therefore singing about the IRA is without a doubt offensive - that's the very reason it's sung about! To get under their skin! If you think that the primary reason people sing IRA songs is to preserve some preconcieved notion about Celtic and their supporters' history then you're wrong. It's sung to * people off. And it's offensive. I'll say it again - d'you think Anthony Stokes really enjoys hearing and being reminded about his dad and his affairs every time he scores? I know I wouldn't.

This is the saddest part of all this for me ^

Fellow Celtic fans, who while they do not need to embrace the Republican culture of the club, surely should recognise the rights of others to hold that viewpoint?

Sorry chief, never realised you had the book on why Celtic supporters sing what they sing.

You've changed my whole outlook on this issue.

William Wallace killed people too. Robert the Bruce. The British Army have killed easily 10,000% more than the IRA yet we are asked to honour them. I can understand some people may well be offended by them but that should lead to the banning of all songs which are similar, starting with songs such as Flower of Scotland or even the Star Spangled Banner, played at Ibrox a matter of weeks ago.

Zenit were punished. Them and Celtic were 2 of 100 similar cases UEFA had to deal with on friday.

So what about Barcelona fans? Or when the Spurs fans chanted racist abuse? OR the fact that year after year Russian teams are guilty of racism? Same with Spanish sides, Turkish sides, Italian sides. You can guarantee that if Celtic played in England or Spain then we wouldn't have even been charged for this.
