Loads of people "jump the fare", I do it a lot as the station nearest to me is unmanned. But if the conductor comes then I pay. Most of the time you get away with it though is their isn't a conductor.

Aye, agree with this. The guy is not being overly aggressive, he's just being a bit stupid. I've seen far worse behaviour on trains.

That 'bigman' * needs his head checked.

Well, how long before the next "have a go hero" tries to do the same, only this time its an old guy who hasn't paid the fare?

I'm not sure I'd like to see the general public being able to use this as a line of defence for correcting what they perceive to be amoral behaviour, especially using physical force.

The fault here lies with the conductor who should have been able to diffuse the situation using company procedure.

    Ahh yeah, I agree.

We differ on the role of the 'big man' (bit of a redundant name for him if you ask me), but I agree people might see this and think they can get away with a little assault if they feel like it.

I'm sure Superman will get a fine though, and it might might stop others from taking liberties in future.

But you just said the guy was right in this case, where do you draw the line?

"The big man" is nothing more than a bully. I'd love to see him try to throw someone his own size off the train.

Also * me off the way the paper have labelled him a "NED", The boys in university, they either don't understand the word (famous for it), or they just love to bring anyone down.

I quite like the fact that, as a commuter, it is not my responsibility to draw the line:50:

Just so happens I feel this guy fell on the right side of it but as I say, I don't want him to go unpunished because it would be held up as an example when people use undue force to uphold what they interpret as the law.

Sam's not a Hun, he hates those *.
Even still, there's no excuse for how he was treated by that *.
Sam's smarter than the majority out there, despite being called a 'ned' by the papers.
He maintains he had his ticket & even though I doubt that as a mate, the conductor should have told him he could post the payment another day & that fat * should never have touched him.

I don't think there was any reason to separate that part of my post which was clearly a joke, with the rest of my posts in this thread which clearly show my support for the wee man.

Yes that's what makes his actions even more deplorable....You would expect that kind of behaviour from a wee ned...not a guy who by all accounts has the benefit of an education...He doesn't even have stupidity for an excuse. I wonder if he would have argued the toss with the conductor and refused to budge from the train had the old guy been thirty years younger and a strapping six-footer...I somehow doubt it....bottom line is he was behaving like a wee * and suffered the consequences. He's a bright lad I'm sure it's a lesson learned.

What a warped stance to have. He was treated shamefully. You make it out as if he was some sort of murderer - 'deplorable actions' etc.

Yeah lesson learned, I'm sure next time he will make sure his single is a return, even though it is pennies to upgrade on the train.

I really hope when my son is pulled up for being £1 tops under paid on the train that some small * * decides he's going to throw his weight about...

Some of you need to have a word with yourselves.

Btw the difference between a single and a return is 10p. This guy was assaulted for 10p.

What else would you describe it as?

    It's assault, plain and simple.
