I recently started a new job and I already wish I had kept signing on as I'm actualy only 20 odd quid better off than when I was on the dole.

I would have kept signing on but got scared that they would catch me.

It's not just about what school you went to. What sort of environment did you (all of you) go home to? What sort of income were your parents? Did some of your classmates come from a different social standing?

As I said in my long winded post on the last page, it is all about social mobility in the UK.

I went home to a great environment. My parents had a low level of income but worked hard and brought me up good. And I think the vast majority of my classmates came from a very standard "working class" background. I am not saying every is lucky enough to have a positive home environment, but the government is limited in that regard and it can only provide opportunity for people. I believe over the past 30 years or so we have ample opportunity to work hard and prosper.

It is up to people whether they take it or not. In the context of benefits, as I said earlier, I have nothing against helping out the unlucky or the hard working, but not those who have no intension to help themselves or their kids. Social mobility in this country is poor but I believe it is down to attitude for the most part rather than a lack of opportunity.

Not at all. I just dont define myself by it.

The government only help out people with childcare costs who are low earners. I am not sure how much you have to earn before you do not meet this benefit, but you and your partners income is obviously above this amount.

You have went into a rant about a single parent with two kids not working, why should she work she is looking after her kids.

She also has to feed, cloth and pay heating bills just like you.

What * me of is when someone decides that they want to have kids and then expect someone else to bring them up at the expense of the tax payer.

no really he went into a rant about single parents not working as they are looking after their kids and i went into a rant about him having a child and then expecting the government to pay for his childcare.

The government are paying the single parent to look after her children, he wants them to pay him so someone else can look after his new born child.

I would never look down on you for keeping quiet about that and I think you would be nuts to come clean.

Yes, you are agreeing with my point mate,.....and if the could earn more money honestly then they would (in most cases).......but unless you have had a great education and were a smart enough individual to make full use of that education you will find getting a well paid job very very difficult today.

You may all have went to the same school and had the same teachers etc etc......but I would hazard a guess that not everone was blessed with the same level of intellect and therefor the ability to take full advantage of the education. That said there are those who can work the system and do, although I don't agree with them, I can see where they are coming from....Why work like * for the same money you can get for sitting on your *?

My wife and myself have worked all our lives, my wife works two jobs.....we are not wealthy, we have a nice car, just about manage to make our morgage each month and have a nice two week holiday abroad every year...neither of us drink or go out much socialising.

My wife's sister and her husband haven't worked in over twenty years, they have a nice bought house where a great proportion of the morgage is paid for by benefits, they have an average but nice family car.....and the guy takes a good bevvy......Him and his wife join us on holiday most years....last year it was a two-week cruise.

On the cold winter mornings when my wife and I are struggling to get up for work.....those two are having a nice long lay in bed.

    Who are the stupid ones?

Following that line of thought rather than cheating benefits then he should probably just go and rob people directly? Quicker, easier, and as long as he does ok from it and doesnt get caught is all good I suppose....

He could go out and beg on the streets I suppose, or become an intravenous drug user and be given all the benefits and welfare the state has to offer....legally.

You must have a terrific view from that ivory tower mate......but bare in mind it's a long drop down. :icon_mrgreen:
