Me too Bob. If things had worked out for Mogga it would have been brilliant. Tony Mowbray wanted to come here and give us the sexy football we all want to see. It didn't work but he had the right ideas.

Barnes had amazing players but he didnt have a clue

Mogga was extremely dodgy in the transfer market for us

Overall Mogga was probably a better manager

He actually had built a decent side in the month or two running up to Xmas but he made a catastrophic mistake trying to dismantle the old team too quick in the window. That is what cost him his job. If that window hadnt existed we might have still won the title IMO..

I agree with that. If Tony Mowbray had tried to rebuild that team over 2 seasons instead of trying to do it all in the space of 12 months I think he'd have survived and been a really good manager for us. He just tried to change too much in too short a space of time, the board signing Robbie Keane over his head undermined him as well.

Me too Marky, I like big Mogga as a person, and wish him every success, despite being glad to see the back of him as Celtic manager :50:

Things didn't work out well for Mowbray here but he has did decent at other teams whilst Barnes has done nothing of note in management so Mogga gets my vote

BUMP - Seen discussion on this in other threads recentley.

Mowbray was the better manager - we had our best pre-season I think ever.

Barnes for me, if Henrik never broke his leg things would have been different, him and viduka would have run riot

John Barnes is a clown,he claimed that Celtic sacked him because he was black.

He should be written out of Celtics history books.

Barnes hands down, what an * of a man and his management team, met them when they where in Portugal when kenny wanted to play some golf.

Madness from the people in charge to let Kenny bring him in.

The difference would not have been managers then,it would have been a world class strike force against an ok strike force aside from Robbie keane who was brought in when things were already a real mess and he was on the slide rather than on the up,still quality nonetheless..

So I'll leave him out for now we had

    Fortune
    Samaras
    Rasmussen
    McGowan
    Actually ok then keane

    Or
    Larsson class
    Viduka class
    Brattbakk
    Burchill

Both * managers in my opinion,Mowbray the much better of the two in general though, and I'm not really basing there times just at celtic, just overall..

the funny thing is weren't Mowbray unable to string 3 wins in a row and have the worst lose % of all Celtic managers? yet with the same team plus Keane of course Lenny won the remaining games he came in for right? I remember Braafheid scoring some jammy freekick against the huns.

Despite that there just seems to be no way out of excusing Barnes for * up like he did with a superior squad of players. Mogga > Barnes

Barnes was better, might have come good given time. He had the right ideas about playing attacking football, the most intelligent English player of his generation by far. Combination of bad luck with injuries and * signings did for him. Dalglish saw something in him as well. Mogga just seemed a bit depressed when he was managing us, don't know what happened.

Nobody could ever claim Tony Mowbray did a good job at Celtic but no * way is he a worse manager than John Barnes. Barnes could only dream of achieving what Mowbray achieved at Hibs and West Brom.

As far as their records at Celtic go, hand Barnes the squad Mowbray had and give Mowbray the squad Barnes had and this wouldn't even be up for discussion.
