    Lost respect? Why?

He's not exactly going to come out and tell us to keep singing these songs he refers to is he? As manager, he wants what is best for us, and since this is clearly going to cause a lot of * for us, he is coming out and telling people to be more careful with what they sing.

We know these songs are not illegal. We don't need him.coming out and bashing his on and labeling us as a tiny mminority.

The club should be standing up for its fans not disowning them.

he was asked the question like lawall was and he gave a proper response what do you expect him to say to the media ?

"oh aye up the ra * the huns"

to say you lost respect for him for his comments amazes me tbh, sing about irish heroes thats all fine and dandy imo but he was asked about IRA chants and he said what we should all be saying and that it has NO place at a football match, which it does not, surley you cant argue that fact.

No, they're not illegal, you're right mate. However the club clearly will get into trouble from various footballing authorities looking to balance the books from the huns.

As I said, I want what is best for Celtic and if that means not singing a few songs or addons, then I will.

Its not all fine and dandy because its clearly not just the Celtic Symphony they are talking about. I can guarantee they want The Boy Of The Old Brigade to stopped as well. Which is ridiculous.

I agree with Neil, certain chants need to go. The GB, as much as I admire them, have to be a little more savvy; where is the harm in say changing "up the ra" in the celtic symphony to "up the celts?"; or in BOTOB, simply change "I joined the IRA" to "I joined the old brigade?" That way, there is no way they can be done for "offensiveness"; take away the ra references and there's nothing they can hold you on.

The way the GB have been smeared is scandalous, I don't think you'll find many who disagree. I've never heard a "song of hate" come from them, quite the opposite. (well maybe apart from "if you hate the * rangers clap your hands!" :icon_mrgreen:)

But I certainly hope they heed Neil's words; if you're going to listen to anyone listen to him.

Its the principal now. How the * can they try to ban Irish folk songs. They won't stop with banning the Celtic Symphony next it will be Let The People Sing and The Fields Of Athenry.

I don't mind having a debate in a few years about how appropriate IRA songs are at Celtic Park, but we can't right
now. Now when we are being attacked from every angle. We have to unite and fight against this bill and the criminalisation of our fans.

    Mad.

What do expect him to say? Up the Ra?

Neil Lennon, a Nothern Irish Catholic wants the ra stuff gone. Are you going to try tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about?

ok folks, keep singing IR songs till we get deducted points, then we'll be 20 pts behind them before long. but as long as you get to sing what you want thats fine. * grow up, keep the IRA songs for the buses and pubs, not inside CP

I have lost respect for.him because he's given the media more ammunition to fire at us.

He'll know there's nothing wrong with these songs. So he should have kept uis mouth shut instead of trying to appease the media.

No doubt next year when its time to renew season tickets we'll hear nothing about thia from the club.

No but he pins the blame on the Green Brigade - a group which have actively encouraged people not to use add-ons. They removed the 'provo' part from a Lennon song, removed the add-ons from things like the Fields and willie Maley songs. They were the people who stood by Neil Lennon greatly when he needed us the most. They made banners, spent thousands on materials etc, in order to show how much they were behind him. They were the ones that came up with idea's like clapping on the 18th minutes etc for him. In this article, he basically lays the blame at their door for the whole thing and I think he has, in a way, stabbed them in the back. There are 300 people in the Green Brigade section yet at away games 4000 odd will sing these songs? So how is this pinned on the GB? I think what Lennon has said is a complete slap in the face and I'm really disappointed in him.

He also praises the GB; and yes I know they are not the sole singers of the ra stuff as the away support do indeed indulge in them. But at the moment, and all season long it is the GB that the police have went after with their tactics of bullying and petty harassment. I think all he's asking the GB is just to be a little more savvy and focus on the excellent atmosphere and colour they bring; that doesn't rely on IRA references.

NL is in a tight spot; he and the club can't be seen to be "condoning" ra chants and indeed I and I suspect many others wouldn't want the club to. He is simply reiterating what he has said before.

Don't get me wrong, I really think the club should come out and demand a stop to the harassment of the GB by the police, it's beyond scandalous. No football fan should have to put up with being treated like a criminal unless a law has actually been broken which I admit, the ra stuff doesn't actually break otherwise it wouldn't be on itunes.

But those who sing the ra chants, (and not just the GB) have to heed the clubs words otherwise the club will be punished. No one wants that.

Lennon clearly puts the boot into the Green Brigade though? He could easily say sections of our support need to cut it out but no, he describes the Green Brigade quite clearly there. See when Lennon was being harassed last season, the Green Brigade were the main voice supporting a man going through the hardest part of his life to date. The Green Brigade are currently facing their biggest fight to date - they're fighting a nonsensical bill, a police force *-bent on harassing them, fellow fans who feel the need to put the boot in, the media twisting the knife as well as the club threatening to close their section eventually. So where is Lennon when they needed him? The one man you'd think would at least not put the boot in? There he is, criticising them. I think it's disgusting tbh. How quickly has Lennon forgotten these people when it means being the mouthpiece for Lawwell and the board? If he wants to condone the chants then fine, that's his agenda - but pinning blame on a group of around 300 fans who have actually been pro-active in cutting out the add-ons is ignorant and disappointing. The Green Brigade were formed in 2006 - are people seriously trying to suggest that they're to blame for this? Or that they've brought these chants to Celtic Park? Utter pish - the chants have been at Celtic Park and away venues for many, many years - long before many of the Green Brigade were even born. They are belted out by 3-4000 odd at away games yet Lennon has, today and in the past, decided to blame it on the Green Brigade.

    Let-down.

How have the Green Brigade been pro-active in cutting it out? You hear "up the ra" coming from them every home game.

During Celtic Symphony then yes - those are the original lyrics. Lyrics that were accepted by Celtic as a club when they allowed the Wolfe Tones to film the video for said song at Parkhead. The song about Lennon that used to claim he was in the 'provos' or something along those lines, the Green Brigade actively seeked to change it to 'he hates the huns' and have done so. They told members not to add-on anything to do with the 'RA' in other Celtic songs such as Willie Maley. They banned the singing of songs like 'Roamin' in the Gloamin' in the section, as well as Merry Ploughboy etc.

    That's how.

Said this weeks ago about changing up the ra to up the celts. It's these little things that will help us get out of trouble.

He should be backing the GB. They have supported NL through thick & thin, he should have said nothing.
