I understand what your getting at however our "link" with Ireland was mainly supportive of the resistance movement, not the "Quiet Man" or picture postcard Ireland. We were politically aware of the real war in Ireland which was not reported in Britain.

I love Ireland and Scotland in pretty much equal measure. As a Celtic fan, is that allowed?

No we (me as a Celtic fan and me of Irish heritage) just don't agree with you that you need to be an Irish Republican to be a gOOd Celtic fan.

    Of course you did.

Why wear a Celtic shirt to a Scotland game?

I've had far worse treatment from Celtic fans abroad than that. Guess I will go support Thistle.

I'm proud of Celtic's Scottish & Irish identity. The reason the name 'Celtic' was chosen was to try and be a representation of the will to bridge the culture and social gaps between the immigrant Irish and the local Scots of the time.

What is it the board is doing to do this? or is this a hypothetical statment?

Celtic is a Scottish club, in Scotland. No matter how many huddles, ex celtic players, celtic tops in the crowd etc there are, Celtic is a Scottish club in Scotland.

The foundations of celtic are rooted in Ireland and like it or not its current financial existance is owed to an Irish business man.

There can not be a debate whether the club is more Scottish or Irish. Are you more Mother than your Father? Course not.

We are in the incredible position to be able to meet neighbours from another country on a weekly basis purley for the love of OUR football club.

CELTIC FC - Inclusive of all, exclusive to us!

I Agree with alot of that - I mean the whole singing thing is a grey area at the min i agree singing oh ah up the ra is outdated and pointless . but surely the fields of atherny, boys of the old brigade are timeless irish ballads that only celtic can sing and shoud

What are you on about now? Your argument is Celtic are a Scottish club is it not? Why not wear a Celtic top to a Scotland game, unless you think Scotland fans are anti Celtic?

Celtic was a club set-up by Irish priests for the impoverished immigrant community in Glasgow.

The way I see it, we are Scottish and Irish in equal measure - and I am proud of the clubs heritage and it's roots.

These "More Irish" / "More Scottish" threads bemuse me.

Feels like an argument over whether a polar bear is more of a bear - or is it more white?

It is a bear. It is white. It is a white bear.

    Like, y'know, sorted...

I'd love the whole Celtic support to sing the Flower of Scotland next home game.....( offensive song surely) and ask the SNP what they are going to do about it.

yea absolutley, these songs have been sung from the jungle so should never dissapear. In my hosest opinion i dont see the board trying to irradicate these songs, im sure well see with the current complaints how they handle it.

They stodd strong behind lenny last year so lets see them soak up this pressure and show some balls.

Haha, aye awrite smart * :icon_mrgreen:

But on a more serious note, I am related to a rather more famous Breen if you get me. Given that, my affinity to Ireland (the country of 3 of my 4 grandparents) is beyond question. I am also immensely proud of Celtic's place within Glasgow's Irish community. It is, afterall, my community and my heritage.

That being said, I love Scotland too. I was born here, raised here, and I live 6 miles from the team I love - a Glaswegian team. And I tell you something, given the choice between living in Ireland or Scotland then it's Scotland every time...does this make me feel less of a Celtic fan? No.

Celtic is special because it is a club of mongrels. We are all mongrels. It was Rangers who followed a homogeneous policy, not us. Thank *.:celt_2:
