Celtic U-19s began their defence of the Scottish Youth Cup this afternoon with a 5-0 hammered Kilmarnock at Lennoxtown, Celtic scored twice in the first ten minutes with goals from Paul George and Callum McGregor setting them on their way to an easy win, Jackson Irvine added to the score with strikes either side of the half before John Herron rounded of things with the fifth.

I must say, this crop of youngsters is giving us plenty to be excited about.

Think the NextGen Series has been great for them as well. Playing against that level of opposition, and holding their own, just shows that they have a real chance.

We've always had a fairly decent bunch of U19's and I'm delighted some are close or have made the breakthrough to the first team squad.

The Next gen series has given them a lot more exposure to the fans and it's always good to see youngsters coming through the ranks. Just a pity though we don't have any SPL reserve league to develop some of these Bhoys just that bit faster.

Need to maintain a good level of development and not let them fall through the cracks. We've had a lot of potential stars that have went off the radar. THis lot look the business though.

Would like to see them bulk up a bit though, hit the wieghts. At 18 you should be starting to fill out to compete in the first team

It's looking good for the under 19 squad and their future at cp.

Paul George looks a player that might break through to the first team.

    I'm not picky.
    Agree.

That's twice they have beaten Man City as well in the NextGen Series as well isn't it? Not too shabby considering the youth system (and money) Man City have. And I think they even gave Barcelona a close match too I think.

Good to see the youth team doing so good and long may it continue :50:

    Good for the youngsters.

Hope at least a couple of these young lads can follow in the footsteps of James Forrest.

you cant expect a bunch of teens to be physically capable to compete with fully grown men. at 18 you shouldve only have done 2 years of gym work, compared to the 10 years that a lot of footballers will have done. developing their skill levels is far more important just now.

but aye, this crop of youngsters really look the real deal. with forrest coming through in the last year or two, marcus fraser holding his own the other week hopefully it wont be too long until we see some more. future is green and white :50:.
