You get players who are good and ones who arent good though. The ones who fail are never expected to make it like Crainey, Wallace, Beattie they were never going to become Celtic players they only played as O'Neill used a small 12-14 man squad and used youngsters as back-up never meant they were expected to be great. Same at the huns now Perry, McMillan, Wylde, Hutton, Fleck, Ness and Hemmings are all getting bits of game time but only Ness can actually make it there.

The players weve got now just are generally quality youngsters McGeouch, George, Kidd and Forrest. there was a time like from 1970-1980 we seen McGrain, Connolly, Wilson, Aitken, Macari, McCluskey, Burns, Dalglish, Nicholas and McStay etc McGeouch, Forrest, George and Kidd are genuine Nicholas, Burns and McStays, for them id say its more likely they will play 200 games for Celtic than not just like it was for McGeady and Maloney and Kennedy if he never got injured.

Rarely does a genuine quality player not make it.

James Forrest has, at times, been a revelation this season; his performances against Kilmarnock and Udinese were fantastic. But there hasn't been a young player coming through that has excited me so much in so short a space of time since (and i'm afraid to mention his name) Liam Miller.

Miller looked composed, assured, well-balanced; the crispness and authority in his passing suggested a real player; he also seemed to have great awareness for one so young and his timing of runs was something you just couldn't teach. I think it was his goal against Lyon with a header that really stood out for me.

This obviously stood out for alot of people including Alex Ferguson and he promptly * off, which peeved many, but looking back you can see his reasons. Anyways, I digress.

McGeouch has that assuredness about him; you can tell lots about a player by his first touch - even before the first touch, body language, posture, where he's looking as the ball comes.

Dylan just looks like a real footballer - not some of the imposters that have darkened our doors of late. The St Mirren goal was immense - even with the deflection - the run in itself was great. And yes, it's Peterhead, but his impact was instantaneous, he beat players every time he got the ball and with his first touches at the corner he nearly created a goal by getting to the byline.

I just hope he doesn't go down the same path as Miller, his promise was woefully unfulfilled. I think Celtic, with the impetus on youth and nurturing talent, will not let that happen here and I'm really looking forward to watching one of the most exciting talents to come out of our youth systems develop and grow, along with the rest of our young team. :50:

    Could McGeouch play centre mid?

Asking you as you seem to know the score when it comes to our youngsters, McGeouch in particular.

I'm pretty sure that is his primary position, al a Petrov. A real box to box player.

I think we have a real gem on our hands here, thank * he was such a huge tim that he couldn't bear (intended) to turn out for them :celt_2:

Aye, he used to be more of a winger when he was younger and was a whippet but hes more of a solid player now and a central player. He probably wont play there for us for a wee while but given the quality there. But for example if he was to play his whole career here then im sure he'd be known as a centre-mid by the end of it.

    Cheers lads.

    Genuinely excited about the bhoy.

Obviously you want all our youngsters to make the grade but this one would be extra special seeing as it would get it right up the huns. The day he scores a winner against them will be a very sweet one.

just let him play his football without the pressure. hopefully he'll turn into the prodigy he is labelled. he does look wonderfully comfortable on the ball which at his young age is very pleasing. i hope he gets more game time to show us what he can really do.

This guy is no Mark Burchill, John Paul McBride or even Cillian Sheridan or Paul McGowan. He WILL make it, it's just a matter of when not if.

The park length runs won't be a regular part of his game but the top drawer footwork and desire to make things happen most definitely will.

I remember martin O neil talking about a group of youngsters that were coming through our academy who he rated very highly ,not only were these lads ripping it up in the youth leagues they were winning reserve leagues (6 titles in a row ),also 5 players played with Scotland together from u17s to u20s getting to the final of the European u19s championship narrowly getting beat 2.1 by Spain Gerrard Pique and all . they also played at the u20s world cup these players were Charlie Grant Simon Ferry Scott Cuthbert Michael Mcglinchey and Ryan Conroy between them they would be lucky if they got 4 games in the first team ,the point i am trying to make is that these lads proved they were good players and i have no doubt that Dylan is a very good young player ,i also hope that the chance to play for Celtic comes his way unlike these players ,but sometimes it takes more than just talent he needs a bit of luck as well GOOD LUCK.

both charlie grant's and simon ferry's careers were ruined by injury, they were the center midfield pairing that drove the scotland team to the euro final and were both seen as the future of the celtic midfield but grant was driven out of the game with knee injuries and ferry lost 3 years of his development due to injury and now plays for swindon town. These 2 injuries imo were why the celtic academy did not produce anyone of note in between mcgeady/maloney and forrest. Hopefully dylan and the rest of our promising youngsters can stay injury free.

I have seen dylan play football since i was a kid and his best position is centre mid. We havent seen the best of what he can do. Yes he does go by players but with the ball in the middle of the park he is a FANTASTIC passer of the ball. I hope we see more of him getting on the ball and making these great passes that he has in his locker. He is a grafter he will put a shift in and give it his all ! . hes got heart and great ability.

between now and season end, in games that we are 2 or 3 goals up (especially at home) i'd fully expect to see dylan get a run for the last 10-15 minutes.

He looks like he's set for a career in the senior team, there's no need to rush him into the team though. Drip feed him game time to let his experience and confidence grow.

They were actually a good team

    Fox
    Caddis Cuthbert O'Dea Conroy
    O'Brien Ferry Grant McGlinchey
    Riley
    McGowan

But they were destroyed by injury really, Ferry and Grant were the two best and both went over 2 years without kicking a ball, as did Riley too. The others never got a chance and hung about too long I think O'Dea and Conroy are still here and McGlinchey and McGowan only left not too long ago.

They could all have played SPL football and thats why they done well and won a lot. But its different having a good youth team and good youth players.

Youd rather have a McGeady in a * youth team than a Ross Wallace in a good youth team. Its individuals we want to come though.

It was a * * shame what happened to Ferry and Grant. They were two of the best that were coming through our youth in a long, long time.

Ferry looked like a young Paul McStay. Unfortunately he will never hit the height's due to his development being ruined by injury. Grant is now retired altogether I think, a tenacious young classy midfielder.

Gutted what happened to them two, although the biggest kick to the balls was what happened to John Kennedy.

Anyone see Airdrie goal machine Ryan Donnelly in the papers sayin hes a tim. But wouldnt turn down Celtic or rankers if they were the only teams interested. But would prefer to go to England. Real Celtic fans dont wear blue.Hope we dont go for him let him go to the scum. McGeouch was a different case,he never really wanted to be there.

The story was only there because all the huns were raging the day or two before that that boy from Dundee Utd turned them down for England even though he was a hun. was them trying to "even things up" by going "this tim would turn down Celtic for england too"
