My misses has just came home from work and said to me that her boss asked the staff to wear a poppy.she refused to wear it because she said she didn't want people to think she was a rangers fan.now my misses family are all protestant and I'm catholic but she felt she couldnt because of me.I tried to explain to her I don't have an issue with her wearing the poppy but she says she will just leave it.Its a reflection on this shithole of a country that once again something that really shouldn't be a big deal has my misses thinking its linked to rangers.it just reminds me of the red hand situation where loyalists have tried to claim it for themselves.I apologize for starting a thread about poppies because I know how people think of it but im just so angry that the huns have stole it for their own agenda and that my misses who doesnt like football won't wear it because of the way its now linked to rangers.I told her if it makes her feel better get a white one and if anyone asks why she just tells them because I'm wearing it for the right reasons.sorry again people.

Rankgers have pretty much hijacked it for their own agenda, pretty shameful and sickening to be honest.

Nobody should be forced to wear any political symbol. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's illegal?

i just hate how people who ae on tv all wear them because they know if they dont there will be a backlash. its silly that people feel the need to wear one for the sake of other peoples reactions.
you cant tell me that everyone on tv wants to wear one, they are either told to or as i said, fear getting pumped in the press

A few folk in my area were kicking up * because McDonalds didn`t allow there staff to wear them. Folk got on there high horse given it the boycott carry on because they were neglecting their hero`s etc. They then discovered it was for Food and Hygeine reasons.

No-one should be forced to wear or not too wear it. It`s optional and your wife`s boss has no right even to ask why or for her to wear it.

It's a sad state of affairs, I hope it dies down as the amount of * it kicks up on both sides of the pro/anti-poppy argument is completely at odds with the true sentiment that 99% of people who wear one are thinking of.

EDIT: Actually 99% is way too much considering how many people are now forced to wear them because they are in the public eye/use them as fashion accessories, what I mean is people who do genuinely wear them to remember those who lost their lives in war.

Rangers idiot pro-poppy brigade started it almost to complement our idiotic anti-poppy brigade. For every Rangers numpty who have hijacked the poppy to complement their pro-British/unionist rubbish, there is a self-styled Celtic rebel who wants to make a sing and dance about them in their defence of their motherland.

It is all self-indulgent nonsense. Call me old fashioned but it you want to support a charity then do it. If you dont then dont. But either way I wish people (not you of course but the media/supporter groups/politicians, etc) would stfu about it in general and support a cause because they care for the cause, not in the name of publicity or point scoring.

p.s there is a poppy chat forum on politics section. Best keep chat in there.
