In my own opinion I don't believe that SMcD is even an out and out striker, just in the same as Kenny Miller 'aint one too. I suppose we can only wait to find out how well he plays in a Celtic jersey but I am just dissapointed that the Clubs ambition so far has been to sign players that:(a) Rangers are trying to sign and (b) will not aide us at all in the quest for winning in Europe.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion about him but I am just sceptical that he will bring anything at all to the current team.

Big deal Rangers were after him; better than no one else being interested at all. Is every Celtic supporter out there convinced they only go for crap players? Is Scott Brown a crap player?
Who knows what McDonald can do in Europe? Nobody knows. The same amount of people who though a former Raith and Hibs player called Didier Agathe could do the business agaisnt the likes of Juventus among others, or Ipswich reject could run rings around Ajax in Amsterdam. Give the guy a chance, we should trust the manager who has given us a good couple of years, and unlike O'Neill is actually building for the future.

I am not even talking about O'Neill or Agathe. Simple fact is that Celtic bought Elvis, Hartley and Deek basically to get one over Rangers-which I don't have any qualms about. But the fact is that WGS has been having striking problems of late and yet he still keeps "the best finisher at the club" (Deek) on the bench but plays big glass hamstrings Beattie. My point here is that if our best finisher can't even get a game then what will SMcD bring to the team? £750k is a big risk for a guy who isn't even a proven goalscorer!

Larsson was a bit or a risk too at £650000 for a guy who wasnt a proven goal scorer. McDonald has potential, give him a chance.

Larsson was a risk indeed, but from what you have seen from Scott McDonald so far do you really think he can develop as a player and be our new Henrik? Don't get me wrong m8, I would love for SMcD to be a great aquisition for the Club and I truly hope he makes me eat my own words but I don't think that his signing has pleased the majority of the Celtic faithful.

We will just have to wait and see. The reason for my confidence is that we have JVoH already, and are looking for a player to play with him, and SMcD could possibly be that with the attributes he has. He has a lack of experience at the top level and maybe some, not myself, think he should score more goals even though he was at a club like Motherwell. However i think with time on his side he could ( thats could not will - a big difference ) become a good player for Celtic

Aye, big Jan does need a good foil with him up front. Would be nice to have a good striking pairing for next season. Personally, I hope WGS focuses all his summer signing attention to our midfield department as I think that this area is where we are lacking any sort of stability apart from Naka.

Dont mean to spoil the party bhoys, but I aint convinced that JVoH will be a consistant Celtic striker and player, hence whats all this about a foil for him, chances are we will need another durable prolific striker to play along with McDonald?
Also I might add dont be fooled by Zurawski`s goal for Poland, he is not a prolific player of any description for me, I am even puzzled how he gets a game for his country? :87:

Such a little ray of sunshine.
To be fair on the basis of this season it is quite correct- although i think JVoH has suffered from a combination of a long Euro run last season/World Cup/New country. When he has been fit he has done the business and hopefully a decent rest this summer should give us a fresh big Dutchman for 07/08

Scott McDonald has admitted his move to Celtic was a "dream come true" for him.

Celtic confirmed on Friday the capture of McDonald from Motherwell on a three-year deal with the option of another year.
The 23-year-old will link up with Celtic in the summer and he is relishing the prospect of playing for the Glasgow giants.
"I'm delighted and it's a dream come true for me," McDonald told the club's official website.
"I'm now looking forward to pulling on my boots as a Celtic player from July.
"It's a great day for the whole family.
"My dad's side of the family are all massive Celtic fans and I was brought up in Australia as a Celtic supporter as well.
"They still haven't come back down to earth since I told them the news.
"It will take a while to sink in, but they can't wait to see me pull on the green and white Hoops for the first time.
"It will be a great challenge for me at Celtic.
"There are a lot of quality players at this club but I'm willing to fight for my place."
McDonald insists he will give his all for Motherwell for the remainder of the season and hopes to leave Fir Park on a high.
"I will always have great memories of my time at Motherwell and I'd like to thank the people at the club for everything they've done for me over the last three years," added McDonald.
"I've enjoyed my time at Fir Park immensely and I've made a lot of good friends at the club.
"During the time I have left at Motherwell, I will try to be as professional as possible and score as many goals as I can."
