I think he was. Just the perfect CH. What do you think? Another CH I really rated in his peak in the Tommy Burns years was Tom Boyd.

Rieper, Stubbsy, Valgareen , Mjallby were all great CBs of the modern era. John Kennedy would've been our best ever home grown CB after McNeill if it wasnt for that stupid * Scotland friendly.

Reiper was too early to tell really, he was robbed of us before we could see if he could push on from his early fantastic performances.

Johan Mjalbby without doubt for me is the greatest, probably since Paul Elliot.

What I would do to have a Rieper at the heart of our defence. That is what we should be aiming for in January someone of his quality and stature.

Marc Rieper was a great centre back, but the best I have seen at Celtic Park in the modern game, going as far back as the 70's even , was Paul Elliott. He was absolutely fantastic for the season he was here.

I was say Mjallby was the best of the most recent, he was great positionally, great in the air and great on the ball.

I am not quite as big on Mjallby as a lot of fans. He was not great in pre-MON days and he didnt look great in a back four IMO. Valgaeran looked a great player for a few years, IMO at one time the best of the MON back three, but by ghod he lost it. Was really poor in his last years with us. Stubbs for me worked great for one season in that Wim defence of Boyd-Stubbs-Rieper-Mahe/Annoni but I remember him being really poor at the defensive side under Burns and very very slow. So that puts me off him a bit.

Mjallby played in midfield a lot pre-O'Neill and was a good midifielder, he also played near enough all his games for Sweden in midfield too. I think he was in midfield at the 5-1 game, he always looks brilliant in any highlights from the late 90's when he played in midfield like the Lubo DVD because Lubo played then a lot of the highlights you see Mjallby dribbling past 3/4 men and crossing with the outside of the boot and spraying passes about like a quality midfielder.

Elliott was top drawer but chased the dough.

Reiper was a great buy and a really good player for us.

Vega had a great 6 months also but we never saw enough of him as he moved to mighty Watford.

Well Rieper was only 6 years after Elliot. So I would say he played in the modern game.
