Beattie is a nightmare, mega underachiever, could imagine him scoring 10 per season in the SPL if he came. As for Naismith, I beleive he'll stay in Scotland, would love to see him come here instead of the huns but hes not the goal scorer we're looking for, more of a wide player, albeit a great one imo.

No question we need to find a new quality striker to play alongside VOH. Personally I think we already have the answer at the club in the form of Derek Riordan. But certainly this summer I think we should sell Miller and look to bring in a new forward.

Agree Riordan is a class player and should get a chance now but if we punt one or both of Miller and Magic (I now think Beatts may join them too in a years time) then we still need to bring in at least one out-and-out fast clinical striker. Sheridan looks good but we cant expect him to play loads of games and in the CL at his age. He is one for 2 years time. Szuwar's suggestions sound interesting and the prices are decent. The one place not to look is the EPL where even crap players cost 8 million+. Even the championship players are normally badly overpriced. Pity about 'celtic diehard' (my *) Stokes cause he looked about right and not too expensive.

Riorden has to be given a chance up front for the remainder of the season imo, before we start going and splashing cash on a new player.

vieri would score goals here but the problem isnt celtic or wages its this cold wet * prody country and our poor championship players like vieri would go 2 manchester city, bolton, aston villa simly because they play in the EPL celtic should look at riordan and our reserve players if there is no1 here that fits the bill we should try eastern europe who knows we mite find the next hagi or stoitchkov.

This is a tough one. There is no doubt we need a goalscorer but there isn't exactly an abundance of them at the minute in world football for the price we are able to pay. So little in fact that I can't think of any.

Of the suggestions from that polish guy (name?) earlier in the thread Smolerek seems the most interesting.

However, I'd have to agree with what just about all of you have said that Deeks is only short term answer.

dont think we should go for an african striker unless we buy another striker for back up cos when they go to play in African Cup of Nations we'll only have JVoH up front and he seems to be injury prone

There seems to be a real scarcity of proven, quality strikers available
given the underwhelming response to this thread

We may have to go with JVOH and Riordan next year as our twin strike force.....unless another Stokes type, emerges on the radar.

I think we should burst the bank for a good quality striker , we need goals and goal cost money (most of the time) but you are paid back in the end.

No one's mentioned the boy Hentelaar yet, surprising since apparently a few months ago we had a scout over watching him. Don't really know much about him, but reputation wise he seems to be a big talent in Holland, i'd like to find out a bit more about him.

dont know if anyone has seen him play, but matt derbyshire, a young striker at blackburn is pretty impressive
