I dont want to get into a big debate about a player who is the past now but I would note Stan did well for us in Europe and was captain of his country for years taking them to at least one finals, prob more. I dont like it when well loved Celts suddenly are considered poor players or we will them to fail just cause we are annoyed they left. I think he is a top player but you might be right that he may not do well for Villa but IMO that says more about Villa than Stan. Stan was a great servant through some bad years (Barnes, Venglos) as well as the great O'Neill years and didnt slope off on a Bosman leaving us with nothing. He gave us something like 7 years.

Fair enough, consistancy in any sport is of primary importance, and I say Petrov played more good games that bad or mediocre, but his percentage of bellow par or lacked quality games for one reason or another were more than they shouild have been, therefor he was NOT a classy player, you see playing classy games and he could, but not often enough is my gripe.
Also I would like to sit and watch lately Celtic games where Naylor although good lacked some quality, with someone who says he is class, you see watch as I said in another thread, he over hits crosses, and he hits the opposition players often when clearing.
I am glad we have him, dont get me wrong, but Tic fans overate players often, why, * knows?

FFS I agree with what Keltoi says about Stan and what Hubert says about Naylor. I think I'm coming down with something. Help!

Naylor has been an excellent signing. I wouldn't say he was world class though. The thing I like about him most is that, given his experience of years in lower leagues, he really shows in his play that he loves being at Celtic, for him this is "big time" and he wants to make the most of it. What a fantastic attitude.

Yes another superb display by Naylor who has been outstanding all season long. After so long having problems at left back Naylor has nailed that starting spot down and I have a feeling he will only get better next season with a full season at Celtic behind him.

Every team over-rates their players. It's called pride.

But for me, someone who can make a step-up from playing in the championship, to holding their own against AC Milan in the last 16 of the champions league can only be described as top quality.

Not every fan overates players all you need to do is look at conflicting posts in forums, you and I are not entirely agreeing although what you say about Naylor coming to Celtic from a lower team etc, is a good point.
Now at the start of the Milan game Naylor fouled Gatuso, then he he crosses the ball right over the by line out the park, this is at the start by the way, then he has a verygood defensive block, then he punts the ball too long over our attack player, then later he clears straight to an opponent then he clears twice well on two consecutive corners.
Overall he plays well, but he is no star believe me, I suggest you watch the game over again and closer this time! :87:

Naylor played well the other night, vital interceptions and generally good play. Not world class but he's been a great find for us. I also think there is more to come from him too. He does merit an international call up and the experience would improve his game further.

I'd say Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge have probably got more to do with it..

Come on you have to be kiddin, that would be a point I would put forward he is a good player glad we have him, but not good enough for the English squad.
Eg, at the time Alan Thompson was picked to the English squad I felt that was duly justified!

weasel ha been immense all season. probs one of the best left backs in brittain never mind scotland. hes got everything, good crossing ability, knows how to tackle and hes quick. he is also very disciplined considering almost every spl teams tactics is to kick naylor of the park. i am very surprised no one from the england set up is considering him. surely he cant be any worse than wayne bridge??

i dont think hes world class, hes a steady solid performer that has been a great signing as good left backs are hard to come by. but its obvious hes not world class
i dont think hes as good as wayne bridge or ashley cole

I must say i am really chuffed with WGS on this one i mean almost all of us doubted him and he is the best full back in the SPL now so great at crossing the ball and amazing defensivley

He does cross a good ball, when he doesnt over hit it.
Watch the games, he doesnt get all the balls in, therefor you are exagerating his ability on cross balls! :87:

Do you really think of Cole as world class or something, they are severely lacking in good left backs, Naylor deserves a chance to prove himself at that level. I think he'd make the step up like he did from Wolves to Celtic, i.e. with ease.

Considering their * ups, he should be in with a shout.
