McCourt never is, never was and never will be a regular starter for Celtic.

As skillful and crowd-pleasing as he can be, we really cannot have players lingering around at the club who genuinely will never be competing for a starting position.

The winner against Inverness beginning of a few seasons ago. Scoring against them again ensuring we got a 2-2 draw. Came on against St Johnston and completely changed the game, then scoring to make it 4-1. :50:

So in 4 and a half seasons and we have 3 notable contributions to a game? With them all being in 2010?

He had his only decent year in 2010. I don't think that justifies keeping him when he's done essentially nothing in the last 2 years.

    I'm not picky.
I'd actually like to see him getting a run of more games, especially in the league. He surely can't be any worse than the way Commons has been playing lately. I don't understand on why he hasn't played a lot more for us recently, especially this season in the league.

He had 36 appearances across all competitions in 2010/2011 and I thought he would have kicked on from that, but the appearances have dwindled since then.

I don't think he'll be here come the summer anyway and will be for the off as I think his contract is up in the summer.

Well you said he has scored no important goals, off the top of my head I remembered 3. My point is he doesn't get a big wage and he won't warrant a decent size transfer fee. With that in mind I don't see why we don't keep him, he's a Celtic fan, has the potential to change games and doesn't cause problems and complain about lack of games.

We all claim we want Lennon to rotate but at the same time want him to sell all the fringe players?

Aye, made some great progress, but, along with Commons, was out for the majority of last season due to injury, leaving wee Jamie on his own on the wing.

Disappointing season for both players, but it looks like they're both going to have good seasons. We've only seen our first real glimpse of McCourt this season on Saturday, and he looked sharp, great acceleration, passing etc. Hopefully the two of them, as well as Forrest when he comes back, can give us the creativity we need in the league.

As for people pointing out Paddy's age as a negative, I would say that McCourt's game doesn't depend on physicality or speed so much as technique and spatial awareness. As such I could see him playing for another 4-5 years at the club, playing a Moravcik role.

For some reason Lennon has Paddy on the bench practically every game. He has rarely used him of late, but then again he's always been cautious with his subs. There has to be a reason, other than fan service, that that seat on the bench is reserved for Paddy.

McCourt has changed in his style of play in games previous to the ict game he looks for other players rather than trying to do it all himself. inyesterdays game he was sent on to run at them and try to produce another great goal but wasnt able to provide. he looks more of a team player when he has played this season.

No - what I was describing was a squad player who has shown that he will never be anything more than a squad player.

Much the same as Mr. Crosas.

Truth is, he's almost 30 and has little game time in all honesty. He should just go to a club where he will be guaranteed first team action and a level to show of his skills.

I like the guy and still think he is living the dream as a Celtic supporter - but......................

I thought that Commons was really out for a lot of time last season because he was playing garbage to be honest :smiley-laughing002:

I'd actually like to see McCourt playing over Commons at this moment in time. Rest Commons (purely because he's not been playing well recently) and give McCourt a go. Can't be any worse than how we have been lately at home in the league.

Plus I can't see how his age would come into it either like you say - he's only 28 for * sake :smiley-laughing002: McCourt's game has always been a tricky technical winger - not a physical or speedy one. I just don't understand why he's not been used more.

He's always on the bench, over players like McGeouch and Ibrahim, so Lennon must see him as second or third choice in that side midfield slot (Commons, Forrest, McCourt, McGeouch, Ibra).

I guess it's tactical, i.e. Long ball football, hoof it up to Samaras, we've been playing recently (sorry, I should say, have become dependent on), which doesn't suit Paddy.

It works against Barca, but against ICT you need Stokes/Paddy playing some quick pass and move football.

Example, Paddy picks up the ball on half way line, passes to Lassad, who heels it back to Paddy, picking it up in full stride he feeds it through to Commons with the outside of his boot......Commons fluffs the shot.

Yep. There were a couple of times yesterday where McCourt and Lassad dovetailed nicely with one another then on to Commons only for Commons to make a complete mess of it.

I wasn't expecting much yesterday but was highly impressed by the way Lassad and McCourt together - made me think they are a good alternative to what we have now.

Squad player. If he's happy being a squad player then there's no harm. If not then he should leave.

He's not as good as many seem to think he is.

    McCourt is happy at Celtic.

He's not as bad as many seem to think he is either.
