Yes, they do. That is how they lined up in their last game. It's not came out of the blue, either. It's been a slow progression to this point. Mascherano, for example, has been moulded as a centre-half the best part of the last year.

It's the way of the future.

Some people are taking this thread far too seriously..
Let me word it better, what team would we play if all our keepers and defenders were all injured.. and before any smart * comments , no youth players defenders or keepers either :icon_mrgreen:

    SHENANAGINS!!

thats how they lined up due to having a lot of injuries in their defence and unlike us they dont have hugemongous array of defenders in their squad.

Mascherano has played a lot their , because they have had a lot of injuries there, its not a big masterplan to play without defenders...

    they have a small squad

Puyol and Pique are about the only two centre halves theyve got after they released milito, abidal is more of a left back

they have a first team squad of 21 players, we have 39, including those out on loan (going by official sites).

The future is to have a small squad of quality players, and not bloat the squad by signing sub-par players

we will never have to play a team without defenders because we have so many, including all players loanees and who can/have played defence + GKs

    we have 19
matthews, izaguirre, el kaddouri, majstorovic, k wilson, m wilson, cha, mulgrew, loovens, rogne, toshney, o'dea, towell, thompson, juarez, ledley (played LB), Forster,Cervi,Zaluska (8 centre halves)

    barca have 12

Victor Valdes, jose manuel pinto, Dani Alves, Puyol,Pique,Abidal, Adriano,Maxwell,Mascherano,Busquets, andreu prat, keita (3 centre halves...5 if you call Mascherano and Busquets CHs)

exclude loans out, and midfielders we have 11, (5 centre halves)
    barca have 9(3 center halves)

moral of the story is barca have a small squad of players of the highest calibre, capable of playing more than one position

we have a large squad of low quality players many of whom struggle in their own position and it would never be considered to play them anywhere else

Fills half the goals, with all the weight he should be lightning quick to get down and stop low shots

its nothing like saying that, cause Villa plays on the left, that his position not upfront, do you watch barca mate?

he plays up front..he goes left, messi goes right.....they both end up in the box scoring goals

just because he doesnt stay down the middle or stay right up top as a target man, doesn't mean he's not playing up front....

....he's not playing as a left winger

Sammy plays upfront and goes out wide left for the ball, so does Rooney, so do a lot of forwards with good movement
Stokes doesn't stay down the middle...he's still playing up front.

Key word there would be goes, Villa starts out left and goes central when the move progresses more often than not. Your typical Rooney movement is centre forward and then drift wide and back. Thats how i see it, id say Villas close to a left winger than a centre forward as he once was at Valencia. Only barca dont cross a ball so hes not punting crosses in rather playing close control stuff and ending up in the box himself
