Thoughts? Annoyed I'll be at work, but I suppose I'll try to find a rerun of it somewhere.

Long handed place in Republic line-up

    Thursday, 1 September 2011 14:47
West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long has been selected to partner Robbie Keane in the Republic of Ireland line-up to face Slovakia in the Euro 2012 Group B qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on Friday.
Kevin Kilbane has failed to recover from a back injury and will return to Derby County this afternoon. Damien Delaney has been drafted in to the squad to replace the veteran left back.
James McCarthy will join the squad after he takes part in tonight's Under-21 match against Hungary in Sligo.

    Shay Given
John O'Shea, Richard Dunne, Sean St Ledger, Stephen Ward
Damien Duff, Keith Andrews, Glenn Whelan, Aiden McGeady
    Robbie Keane and Shane Long

Odd that the game is on a Friday. I'm not excited about this one as I reckon we'll just grind out the Slovaks. Probably a nil-draw or a one-nil victory.

More excited about the Russia game, afterwards. They're without Akinfeev, as well. :icon_mrgreen:

Yeah but there was talk that he was going to be replaced whether he was fit or not. Glad to see it anyhow. He has been the weaklink in our defence for years, only person not to realise it was Trap and its not like we didnt have able replacements. There are four or five people who would do a better job than Kilbane at left back.

Yeah thats because managers love him for some reason even though he hasnt been cutting it for Ireland for the last four years. As much as I like Kev, he has become an embarresment for Ireland and cost us alot of goals during the world cup qualifying campaign. Ireland fans were shocked that he began the euro 2012 qualifying campaign as our first choice left back even though there were better players than him available. Must be good mates with Trap. Just glad hes been dropped now, hopefully Ward can make the LB spot his own.

Even Ciaran Clarke LB better than Kilbane. If he's available, I would've had him in the starting eleven.
