Maloney has suffered a lot of misfortune since selling out to the lure of English football.

Of all players I didn’t think it would be Maloney who could potentially bolster Celtic’s kitty (would have thought far more important players would have to be sacrificed).

 

luckily for my, and probably that old russian woman, I dont think this is going to happen, yet another twitter rumour that caught to much steam

But that's the thing, it can never happen.

We can sell a player for 8 million, but we can't buy a player with that 8 million - cos a player already commanding an 8 million quid pricetag is never gonna come to the SPL.

I see this a lot on here, when newspapers come out with some silly season story about Kayal going to Man U for £10M etc. Folk saying - "I'd totally bite their hand off" cos they have visions of us signing another £10M player, or even two £5M players. In fact, neither of those things is going to happen.

If we got £8M for Ki, and reinvested the whole lot in players, it would get us two £3M players - after the two wages, two sets of agents' fees etc were taken into account.

 

Slim chance of that considering he's only managed one full season in his entire career.

£2M is a no brainer considering his contract is up next summer and we're unlikely to offer him a new deal on similar terms.

 

Exactly, the expectations of some fans are just way too high, they need to be realistic in the targets we can actually sign and the amount we can actually spend.

 

Good post. I'd still accept it being split, though. If we were clever, we'd get the best of the deal.

For example, Danny Wilson was signed by Liverpool for 2m, Vidic for 7 by United...take an extra million from another transfer deal, such as the Maloney one, and buying two such defenders would be ace. Bit out there, I know, but just saying...we could make it work.

Can we please concentrate now on getting a centre half in before the transfer window shuts ,these 2 bhoys if they sign will terrorise the spl so its the defence that concerns me . oh and QPR are reportedly ready to bid £6 mill for gary hooper

 

not in a million years will an epl club take samaras let alone offer 3m for him no way maloney 2 is a big doubt too

Not sure about this one. Also these guys are both unproven. Think we would be taking a risk.

 

in this day and age we have to take risks we cant compete with english clubs and buy the finished aritcle and if they are will have to be from an obscure league.

keyal izzy hooper were all risks. so were ljungberg, kapo and ras.

think under lenny weve hd more hits than misses tho.

(come to think of it ras was a mowbury signing tho)

Would never have brought Baloney back in the first place wee * !! Sammie can go and I will drive him FOC down South.

These 2 new guys will freshen the place up if we get them .... Not sure about the Hooper one going to QPR though, I have a mate whos a big fan and says he aint heard nothing down South !!

 

Moving Samaras and Maloney on would be terrific imo. None of these players win many point bar at ibrox with Samaras of course. We'd be short of options for those matches unless any of the new guys are good of course.

With Murphy also away, we are so short up top. Let's hope we do get TWO strikers in by Wednesday and I can also see lennon making a late move for an SPL player which I'm not particularly keen on.
