We CAN take any of those teams on our day. I'm not saying we're better than them, but were we better than Barca in 04, United in 06, Milan in 07?

Surely the board will give Lenny the money for a quality striker, a quality CB and a decent LB replacement if we are in this group.

yeah i know they 'cheated' but how can you say we would have likely have won? Just because one of the players scored 2 goals?

Basel are a better team than Sion, and Martin O'Neils team was MUCH, MUCH better than our current squad.

Can everyone on here please stop greetin about this!? We will be reinstated in the Europa League, I'm pretty sure of that. The talk coming from UEFA seems to suggest that they will chuck Sion out. Platini said they have broken the rules and in doing so they defeated Celtic. Whether these players had an impact or not is not relevant. They played a number of ineligible players and should face heavy sanctions. 3rd Division clubs have been kicked out of the Scottish Cup for fielding 1 ineligible player so the same will happen here, no doubt.

So when we are placed in this group, we need to stop freaking out about whether or not we will be pumped and really get behind the side like we always do because:

    1. I personally and I am sure a lot of you have missed having European football at Celtic Park. We need these occassions in order to attract players to Celtic and to show them what a great club we are. We need the exposure. We will get 3 sell outs at Celtic Park and we can start the ball rolling again.

    2. We need the money from the competition and the gate receipts.

    3. It gives the players a chance to prove themselves at this level and to prove themselves to the fans after the disappointing result against Sion. They will want to put things right. It will also give the players an experience of top class European football and travelling away to play class teams.

    4. I dont think these clubs will be looking forward to playing at Celtic Park. They will fear us there and this will be to our advantage.

    5. This is what Lennon wants. Its part of his plan as to where he wants to take the club. It can only be a good thing.

    6. We will also get the chance to see Celtic play against some class players.

    7. It will give us some really good away days in terms of travel and enjoyment. A chance to continue our great reputation as supporters.

    8. If we can scrape some results and maybe progress then it can only be good for our coefficient. Celtic's coefficient is dropping significantly and we'll soon be unseeded in qualifiers so if we can get anything then it will be a bonus in terms of our future European prospects.

    9. Rangers fans will be raging that we will be getting European football and they wont. They'll be especially annoyed if we get through on a technicality so lets make it count.

Playing in this competition can only be a good thing. Lets get behind the team and hope that we do as well as we possibly can and if that means 4th place then at least we tried and we can go out with some pride. Hail Hail!

If we get in it will be 3 good away trips for the fans as well as 120000 + fans through the Celtic park turnstile over the 3 games.happy days

Very hard for the board to back Lennon with the timescale. They will be worried about the risking money in case we don't get the green light (far, very far from being inevitable imo.) but with no signings, 6 very difficult ties.

So basically Celtic were waiting on the outcome of the Sion ties before they make a move in the transfer market ,,,So a budget if we did'nt qualify and a better budget if we did ,this late into the transfer market ,,,thats some ploy and a dangerous road to go down from the Board ,,don't believe it for a minute that they would leave so late to start negotiations with players .
