O'Neill said he couldn't take the club any further because there was not enough money. O'Neill went in to his own pocket in order to bring in Derek Riordan. All his spending aside he inherted a team with Larsson already in it. There's no way those kind of funds could be given to him now. What makes you think O'Neill could build a side as good as he did last time with less money? Think the board will give him another £20m to spend?

I dont think for a minute he could build the same team. Not a chance.

We last won the title in 2008. We have spent very little on quality since then, if truth be told. Stokes and Hooper cost £2m each. Forster is on loan. Commons cost £300k. Emilio cost £600k and I think Kayal cost about the same. We blew £3m on Efrain Juarez, money that could have been used to sign another quality striker, instead of another midfielder.

Back in 1997, we signed Henrik Larsson for £650,000. Bargain of the century, undoubtedly. He'd be worth about £50m+ in today's market.

Everyone was delighted about Juarez. He didnt work out sadly. Esy in hindsight eh..

Izzy and Kayal were bargains...as was commons due to contract status.

Some people forget about the amount of money MON spent, as well as the fact he already had our greatest ever signing waiting for him when he got here.

Oh im well aware of that but he competed in europe against teams who spent far more. He gave us great times.

Not saying he could repeat it but i think he could win us the spl.

Not a hope in * of MON coming back, or even wanting to come back.

Neil Lennon is the Board's choice - for one reason only. HE'S the CHEAPEST OPTION. This fits perfectly with the Board's ethos. Nothing will ever change at CP until the Board changes.

We are stuck with this situation - not a case of going forwards, we're well and truly on the silde.:31:

Exactly, which is why I can never see him coming back here, not with the board we have now anyway. I'm aware that Desmond was still in charge back in 2000 when O'Neill was brought in to replace Barnes/Dalglish, but he will simply not give him those funds again. As I said in my first post, times have changed now. Scottish football is nowhere near as strong as it was eleven years ago, when O'Neill arrived in Glasgow.

...But that was because he spent a lot of money on quality players!

He probably could, but he's not coming back.

Move on now. Nothing to see here.
