And now we all know where ghost stories originate from.

I think it's down to the effects of sedatives - it puts you into a deeper state of sleep. I don't experience sleep paralysis but I do get a recurring dream every night or so - it gets considerably more vivid when I've had a drink or a strong painkiller or something.

    Oh, also, this:

I had it once a few months ago and it was utterly terrifying.

Stayed over at an ex girlfriends flat and she left early for work.

The flat is an old granite building dating back 150 years.

Anyways I could feel the duvet pinning me by the top of the arms/shoulders to the bed and I just couldn't move. I was trying to scream out and nothing was there.

I could sense something was around me and I was fighting for ages to do something.

Next thing my parents were sitting calmly at each corner at the foot of the bed. I was trying to ask them for help but couldn't move or speak in any way.

After what seemed like hours I woke up screaming, utterly freezing and shaking like a leaf.

No idea what caused it on this one and only occasion but you would never believe how scary it is unless you've had one.

I had this a good few times but always in the same place, and never experienced it anywhere else.

Mine felt like somebody was holding my hands above my head and im always on my back. There's always this shadow of a man stood next to me as well, its never during a dream or entwined in another dream, its literally just me trying to fight the trapped feeling. I remember once I stuck two fingers up at it and it did it back :56: Also I could never scream or shout out and when I wake up I can't move for a few seconds and get ridiculous pins and needles all over.

had it in hospital once, was when the whole 'end of the world black hole machine' was about. was playing football and people started running, started running while the black hole opened, sucked into the darkness and i was lying unable to move in pure darkness my eyes closed but im sure i was awake..
not sure if thats the same thing?

had a few times where someones hit or stabbed you, wake up and youve the pain in the place then it fades away

The week after Ibiza was so strange....I couldn't get out of bed for 4 days....took me a few hours each time to get up for a *....the 1st night, I had an out-of-body experience and floated around my room till I got to the wall, felt my whole body vibrate as I passed through it but then sort of went rushing back into my body again.

I don't know if I've had this paralysis thing....the weirdest thing was one I knew I was dreaming but couldn't wake myself up...I could feel myself lying in bed but just wouldn't wake up....I was having a dream/nightmare where I was being chased by vampires and all I could do was float upwards away from them....so they ran up a hill and a big, blonde one grabbed hold of me....I was aware I was dreaming but couldn't wake up until I had wriggled free.....which I did by biting the vampire's hand.

Then I lay on my side for about 2 minutes....rolled onto my back and saw a black guy in a blue jumper sitting on the end of my bed....then he leaned over me and I * bricked it.

I've had it twice, totally paralysed, completely lucid, and feeling like my chest was being crushed.

I thought I was suffocating on the first occasion, not a fun experience when you're about ten years old.

This seems to happen to me when I'm absolutely exhausted going to bed. Only once I could open my eyes. Happened to me just over a week ago, I was falling asleep and then next thing I can't move and can just hear a weird nose in my head. Not as bad as some of the other stories but not being able to move is actually pretty * scary. Also, during the week I had a weird dream, it's actually funny thinking about it. In my dream I was just walking into my estate and next thing my phone starts ringing, I look at the phone and it's a lad that used to be in my class in primary schools name on the phone. He's a bit of a scumbag now, haven't talked to him in years and don't know why I thought of his name when I looked at my phone. Anyway I answered and said "hello" and no one was replying and next of all I was * myself, dont know why. So I turn around and he appears out of no where, I said something like " alright Ben what you doing down here?" next of all he's offering to smoke a joint with me, because he likes me so much, I agreed purely because I was * myself. Next of all he takes a handgun out of his pocket I said something stupid like "Jaysus Ben what the * do you have a gun for?" and then bang he shoots me in the right hand side of my chest. I swear to * I could feel pain in my dream where I was shot, was so weird. He then shot me again a couple of times and in my dream I sort of fall backwards, next thing im awake in the middle of the night and for about two seconds I genuinely thought I was dead, and I was dripping in sweat. Thought it was * up how I woke up as soon as he shot me. Probably watching too much love/hate :56:

Get this all the time. Once I woke up on the couch unable to move and there's this hysterical, maniacal high-pitched clown laughter, like, right in my * ear. And I can't move.

Usually I just wake up and the room around me is slightly altered and I'm struggling to move.

Pictures of the sleep paralysis demon.

Think I've experienced this before, around a month or so ago. Woke up with my hands by my side, under the blanket and felt as if I was being dragged by the feet out of the bed. Couldn't shout or anything and my feet were actually dangling out of the bed! Was scary for a while but kinda knew what was happening.

You can go to Ibiza no problem, it's the potent narcotics that will get you.

Blaming it on sleep paralysis :56:I'd get sleep paralysis after a week of an eccy and drink binge as well.

I got it in Ibiza too, and Zante.

Absolutely horrible, terrifying *. I thought I seen my sisters boyfriend on the plane wearing a sari

Once I thought I was awake, and my dog had my by the hair and was swinging me about the bedroom. I was absolutely terrified.

Havent had it since last year in Ibiza though, used to be quite common after a binge.

I think I had this through the night for the 1st time. * creepy feeling.

Felt I was being clawed in the chest for a few seconds, then felt myself rising out of the bed towards the ceiling, like I was levitating. Everything was so vivid. I managed to snap out of it then I couldn't move for a minute or 2 as I was trying to wake up, you actually do feel paralyzed. The Human Brain can do some * up things. :smiley-laughing002:
