He was the right player at the wrong time. I think if he was in the side he would be a good alternative for Stooper. A far better player than Murphy or Sammy imo.

In saying that, we did well by recouping some of the fee back for him as I think we paid a little too much for him.

I would say no. I am much happier with Stokes and Hooper up front. We at least recouped a good chunk of the over priced fee we originally paid for him. To be fair he did have his moments while at Celtic but just not good enough and consistent enough for me.

I think Fortune' was unfortunate in this respect..........

I think there was an element of ignorance amongst people in Scotland about exactly what type of player he was. I think a lot of people saw Celtic going out and spending £3.8million on a forward and automatically assumed he was going to be a goalscorer. In fact, Fortune' had never really been much of a goalscorer throughout his career. That's just not the player he is.

As soon as that became clear and he missed a few chances then he got slated and the word 'dud' started to be bandied about. It's very difficult for any player to survive at Rangers or Celtic once people have that perception.

In hindsight it was not a good move by Tony Mowbray to spend that much money on a forward who wasn't a goalscorer.

No Chance. He was a decent player - no more. We done well to recoup most of our fee for him.

Rangers bought Jelavic for the same price we paid for Fortune. Enough said.

Players always seem better when they are gone (Donati, Jarosik, Fortune etc) but the truth is he didn't play well when he played up here due to his lack of instinct infront of goal (especially along side Samaras), and probably wouldn't play well if he came back. We paid too much for him, got a good bit back and we both moved on. Good decision by Lenny and the board.

Wanted fortune to do well and think because of the 3.8M involved it possibly made criticsism harder to avoid, but would I take him back? No. Was he good enough? No.

People seem to forget, fortune was mowbrays maquee signing (bar keano) snd he wasn't even the 2nd or 3rd best player in a poor squad. Recouping the better part of our losses with fortune was a smart move

Poor player for me. Good at holding the ball up, yes, but like Sammy he often tried to take on too many players and ended up running down blind alleys. Didn't spend enough time in the box either, though when we signed him I was expecting him to be a big target man, so I suppose that's just him not being what I expected. He just missed too many good chances for my liking. Summed himself up for me in that moment when we drew 3-3 at Falkirk, he won the ball out on the left, ran into the box, Skippy in acres of space a few yards out, Fortuné decides to shoot from an impossible angle and it's easily blocked. Had he cut it back it would have been a tap in for Skippy.

Naw. He is just awfully inconsistent. You need consistency to wear the hoops. Samaras had it for awhile and lost it hard that's why he's not in the first team anymore. Its best players like this turn in their strips and go elsewhere. Both Fortune and Samaras scored some beautiful goals when they were on their game but usually they just aren't. Those are two players I tried hard to like and give them a chance but they just never cut it. Nope.

dont think there was any point in keeping fortune, half decent player on his day but celtic have had far too many just half decent players over the years

This is what I love about this site , the complete differences of opinion between us sometimes.
I thought Fortune was one of the worst players I ever saw in a Celtic shirt.
Further to me he was a reminder of the disaster of Mowbrey's reign & I was delighted to see him gone.
