As much as I think the board do a good job, business wise, lets not forget we have lost the league 3 years on the trot, at a period of time when the huns have been on they're knees. By not investing in the squad we will drive ourselves deeper in debt by not pushing the boat out to win the league and get that Champions League spot, which is the money spinner. By not building on our strengths, and this goes right back to when we lost the Uefa Cup final (Porto went on to win Champions League the next season...we won the Scottish Cup!) we have denied ourselves the chance to bury the huns and be in the Champions League for years in a row, making all that money year in year out. Fair enough Mowbray and Lennon spent a good bit, but they're signings were more or less paid for by the money made on outgoing players. Personally I doubt we are as skint as some people are saying but I think, if we are, then its our own downfall for not building on our strengths. Speculate to accumulate.

    Right,

When you go to B&Q and see a product you are contemplating buying.....

Can you take it home on trial ?

Can you offer them half the price for the product ?

    No.

Why should international football players of pedigree be any different ?

We are penny pinching, embarrassing, *.

The club has lost 25 - 35 mill over the past 3 years through lack of vision.

    It is still continuing.

Wouldn't imagine so, a 'Keeper and a striker are still of vital importance. I'm sure Lawwell will be well aware of that.

    Just cant get enough
Lenny has announced he is desperate for a keeper.
The longer the window goes on, the more likely clubs are to try and exploit this. Not give us a bargain.

No you cannot but this is football, not B+Q. I would suggest if B+Q did allow a trial period, it would make reasonable sense for the buying customer. Maybe you're a bit easily embarrased, our negotiating tactics aren't out of the ordinary at all. Look at the huns if you want to see a truly embarrassing transfer policy.

Not necessarily. It probably was not Neil or the club's intention to wait this long but not everything can work out perfectly in the transfer market.

I don't have to look to them at the piggery.

My embarrassing transfer policy is closer to home.

We have lost a fortune through lack of investment.

Is it possible Lawell has no faith in Lennon ?

Correct, and that statement by implication would suggest that additions are going to be quality signings, or is this going to be spun away as something altogether different?

Im not buying it. We havent won the title for 3 seasons now. I would argue on the plus side, we are a year more experienced, but on the down side we have lost the best player in the league and dont have a keeper. This side werent good enough for the title last season, so what makes us think that its good enough this season, with what we have?

The board really need to up their game and come up with decent signings to give Neil every opportunity to take the title back. This trials and putting in embarrassing offers is pish. And yes, the window shuts at the end of August, but every other club will be trying to get players in as well. We might end up with nothing if we leave it as long as that.

    Or maybe a Willo Flood.

Surely we would have bought early close season then ?

Everyone knows GK is a priority.

Your scenario misses the point because while we messed about Genk came in with the asking price getting an international keeper at 21 who Lenny obviously rates and who could have been a steal at that price.

    Everything is simple here.

We needed a keeper at THE END of last season.

Where is that keeper ? The board and manager are well paid to sort this out.

Do you want to buy this player when (* forbid) we have lost 1 or 2 league games because the transfer window still has 3 weeks to go ?

    Simples.

The board may well have one eye on the other side of the watter thinking we can win the league on the cheap this season:87: No chances should be taken with automatic qualification into the champions league this year:87:

The goalkeeping scenario wasnt looked at prior to the seasons end. Im convinced of this. I am sure that Neil and the board were confident that they could go to Newcastle with an offer that was less than what Newcastle wanted and it would be accepted. When it wasnt, there was no plan B, no contingency and that is why we have had this mish mash of trials, links with different keepers and nothing happened.

In hindsight the situation should have been sorted out with Forster prior to the season ending.

Adding quality to the overall squad isn't the same as signing 3 quality players.
