2 days ago I bought a laptop off ebay for a total of 165 quid. The seller is now no longer registered on ebay. I got a message yesterday saying the item had been dispatched, so my other worry is that it is nothing like the spec in the item description. It started off with an opening bid of 99p but now I think the guy is no too chuffed at the price it ended at. When I got my emailed receipt from paypal the guy's user name: Rangers1987. It was in Dumbarton, I'm thinking now I should have said to the guy that I'd come and get it because I'm off work for 3 days this week. Any help/advice would be great guys. Thanks...:50:

Being bumped for 165 quid is not the end of the world though, I know a guy who got bumped for 2 and a half grand over a MK5 Escort Cosworth. I don't know much about used cars but I know that you'd never get a decent Escort Cossy for under 10 grand. He never even tried to get the money back. Wish I could afford to just write off 2500 quid.

Nice one. Thanks for the info mate...:50:

Just curious: What happens if it arrives and it is nothing like its description or doesn't work?

Yeah, if you've used Paypal then they cover you for the price of the item and then they will go retrieve the money from the sender themselves. :50:

Great, I don't feel so worried now. I just think of the old saying: If it's seems too good to be true then it probably is.

It ended at 155 plus a tenner of postage but its spec is:

    AMD duel core processor.
4gig of DDR2 Ram and a 320 gig HDD with windows 7. It's a Packard Bell which aint the greatest ever but my parents have had 2 Packard Bell PCs which we've never had any bother with. The only reason we got rid of the first one was because we needed an upgrade.

I used to pay by postal order but I got sick of having to pay more than the cost of the item for the postal order. I think a postal order for 165 quid would have been about 180. They used to charge 10p in the pound but I think it works differently now. Thanks for all your help guys...:icon_mrgreen:

If there was a minimum amount of money he wanted for it then he should've put on a reserve on it otherwise the only person to blame is him.

I just got a refund for an item that never arrived, only took 3 days for the cash to be put back on my paypal :50:
Edit - If you are going to pursue a refund be sure to keep all the messages between you, ebay and paypal as evidence.

Until I receive an item and I'm happy with I always keep the paypal receipt email so I've still got that as evidence of the transaction...:50:

On another forum I read about a guy who won an Ebay auction for an original Aleister Crowley manuscript for 15 quid. In the right hands such a manuscript can change hands for a 5 figure sum and the seller anticipated a big bidding war and opened the bidding at 99p. When it ended at 15 quid he didn't want to part with it but the winning bidder pursued it through Ebay and eventually got his manuscript. The seller wasn't too chuffed...:56:

I heard this before but I don't know if it's true. If I sell something on Ebay and receive payment via Paypal then I'll only receive the funds once the buyer gives good feedback. Is there any truth in this?

No that's a load of crap. Feedback has got nothing to do with it.

Got the laptop today and it seems to be working fine, typing this on it right now. No disks with it though so I want to make back up disks ASAP.
