Agree 100% mate. It also annoys me when people make out that having a political opinion in a supposedly free and democratic country is a bad thing. We need more political movement instead of this constant apathy allowing the status quo to remain in power going through the motions with nothing really changing.

The only people attempting to drag our club through the gutter are people we shouldn't give a flying * about. The same people who constantly attempt to tarnish our fantastic reputation.

Such as the huns and the media.

    Let the people sing.

Exactly mate, I really don't understand why so many worry about what people who obviously hold a grudge against us think, even if Celtic fans never sang a rebel song again they would find something else to moan about.

You are right mate, let the people sing whatever the * they like, but I'm also from the the old school where "they" could sing whatever they like also.
What burns my * is when some of us puff our chest out and proudly make that statement, while at the same time have their ears up against the telly, hoping to hear them singing wan of their really nasty "illegal" songs so that they can send of a snitchy Email saying our wee sensitive dispositions canny handle it, and demanding they be fined or docked points.
FFS we know the RA songs offend the huns (and a lot of other people) as much as theirs offend us, so it should either be start acting like adults at a fitbaw match again and let everybody belt out what they like, or be true PC candy arses, and bin the lot.
Expecting pelters for this post, but I'm truly sick of this * and think it is going to take the fun right out the game.
Oh and bring back the terraces annaw.

As you should. Their songs are illegal, ours are not.

Personally I think we sound like wee weans when we make that statement.
Yes it's a great wee exuse to wind up the huns, but do you honestly think they wont * for tat until ours are made illegal as well. Its already started and it wont end until we all end up singing kumbaya.
Have a poll wi the oldtimers and ask them if they are really offended by ANY song ?
The only thing that hurt feelings when I went to most of the games was a wine bottle to the back of the napper.
We must have been real tough * to have made it through all those nasty songs intact. :celt_2:

Irish freedom is not on equal footing with songs about Catholic genocide.

    It’s a non-argument.

There is nothing wrong with songs about Irish freedom, quite clearly though, any civilised country would have problems with sentiments that express rejoice in racism, sectarian or xenophobia – this is exactly what characterises the Hun’s songbook.

I agree with your point, but do you think them not singing their vile songs will change their views on bigotry, racism, etc. If not then what does this song ban actually set out to achieve? In the end it could just brush the problem under the carpet.

Your being ridiculous, the songs you have mentioned are amoungst celtics best and for that reason will give the players a huge lift. But obviously you cant come up with a better agument, probably because they are all completely irrelevant.

If we had a team of paddy mccourts then your argument may be valid. On the other hand its not, since we have Forster, Wilson, Commons and Hooper. Im sure they love "ooh ah up the RA" and "England your a monster"

Well if they knew what the songs were about I doubt they would be offended to be honest. I think that's the same with most people to be honest.

A lot of people just hear 'IRA' and think scum. Whilst knowing very little about Irish history.

Songs which aren't football related aren't for me at the football. I would much rather the fans were signing about the players to build their confidence.

So you want The Fields Of Athenry, Just Can't Get Enough, You'll Never Walk Alone and Let The People Sing to stop being sung?

I don't get this argument, I'm all for singing about players that are exceptional or have achieved something but why sing songs about players who have done nothing and are average at best. I support the players because they play for the club, the club means more to me than any player and the fans are the club. Everyone uses the "not just a football club" thing when it suits them but our political activism are what makes Celtic more than a football club.

Irish rebel songs have been sung for too long now for a minority to just demand that they be stopped to appease groups that never have and never will treat us fairly.

I don`t have an issue with fans singing rebel songs, I personally don`t but have done so in the past.

As for songs sung only related to football then you will be hard pressed to find a club anywhere in the world that has solely songs related to football.
