We just lost one of the 4 special players of real quality we have. On the other hand I was never 100% happy with the way he played like a winger but was technically a LB and had to be heavily coverered for by Ledley. IMO this will also mean that the CM will be Ki-Kayal now that Ledleys special role covering for Izz will have gone. That will be a better balanced team IMO. However, with Broony and Commons not exactly true wingers, we relied on Izz for width so I think we might be too narrow now. There is a lot to think about.

Wish Izzy a speedy recovery. The thing is though, left back is a very hard position to get right. All the talk about possible loans and replacements, and hardly anyone comes to mind. Ledley would be wasted there, I'd be more comfortable with Mulgrew at centre back. Could try Matthews, but he's a right back. I know any time for this to happen isn't great, but just before the Europa League qualifiers is a sickener. Hopefully he'll set the SPL alight again when he comes back in the second half of the season.

remember Wilson was great at LB when he first arrived. Too many people remember him getting taken for pace and strength by Cousin in that OF game. I would have every confidence in him at LB. I would say give Mulgrew another go too. He looked terrible there for us when he first came but it is possible his new found confidence will mean he is very different now. I dont think we should rush out and sign anyone.

Indeed we won the league in Strachan's first year with Wilson at LB (Mo Camara was obviously dropped after Artmedia)

I can see Lennon using Matthews at left-back though. I don't want to sound too dramatic or that, and I know Lennon's a strong-willed guy but I wonder if in persuading Matthews to shun the Premiership and come up here there is a hint of obligation to play him.

Therefore Wilson and Matthews will be the FB's for me. Mulgrew a fantastic utility man to have on the bench...

Would really need Izzy for the European and old firm games- thankfully i think he only misses the first one at ibrox (hopefully).

Thought mulgrew did well today as his replacement, but just doesnt have the same pace as izzy

I think we can accommodate this through back up on the domestic front but a major blow for us going into Europe IMO. Hopefully I am wrong and one of the other lads rise to the occasion.

Maybe its not as bad as thought, I am sure Izza is gutted considering he is not long back from injury. :shamrock:

Mulgrew can take on the LB role now. His spell at CB will surely have given him more defensive tactical awareness. He wont get as far up the wing as izzy but his long passing ability can make up for that somewhat.

:54:Knew soon as he went down to looked a bad one hope he can get fit and back soon to ensure our title push.

Would rather this sort of thing happens now and not later on when it could have cost us the title.

In the grand scheme of things, it is not a particularly serious injury. We would all be much more upset if it was knee ligament damage or something. He'll be fine. Question is, will we?

With his long ball though he could IN THEORY still be useful. Did he not play for Dundee United at LB and was their POTY? You do get LBs who have such a good deep cross or long ball that they dont need to get high up the pitch. My main concern is that he is a better defender now. Hopefully his CH stint has improved that part of his game. We have a number of LB options.

I'd be more than happy to put Mulgrew in until Izzy is fit again.

Ive never had a problem with Mulgrew going forward, it was always his defensive capabilites that worried me but he seemed to improve alot at CB so hopefully his time playing there will make a big difference.

Dont think Lennon will make a permanent signing for temp cover but I can see a possible loan move on the cards. Wayne Bridge anyone??
