I would take him for the right price. He reminds me of skippy more than hooper though.

it was more like 4 or 5 years ago hooper was at Hereford, 2 years ago he scored more goals in championship than andy carroll.

that wsn't my point, the point is he can only score where he's playing. whether thatbe championship, league 2 or in saudi arabia. if lenny thinks he's good enough then he obviously see's something in him he likes

The guy might sign for us and completely flop, but he represents such a low risk then why not. A league two caliber player playing league two football, or a hidden gem?

I seem to remember a * of a lot of people asking "Why are we bothering signing some 34 year old Slovakian?".....he was a low risk signing at the time...what was his name again?

I'm not comparing the player, i'm comparing the principle. Many of the kind of people who post on boards like this would have said Moravcik was too old before seeing him in the Hoops. Point is, there was no risk behind it and it paid off spectacularly.

If it's low risk we should definetly go for it. Not like he's going to demand high wages, and we need a poacher incase Hooper takes a bad one this season.

Breenzo, you are spot on there mate. I was one who felt really embarassed when I read it on teletext that we had signed "this 34yr old Slovakian", and remember this was at a time when the manky mob were splashing out millions on players, but what a "Gift from *" the unknown Lubomir Moravcik turned out to be. One of the best two footed players ever to grace our famous hoops. :50:

rotherhams fans forum view on lefondre

    Hi bigtim.

Le Fondre is a very, very good player at League 2 level. That probably means he'll be an outstanding player against St Mirren.

I think he is good enough for Celtic. He's probably not quite as good as Hooper yet (based on my limited knowledge of Hooper and that Le Fondre has never really proved himself consistently above League 2).

Le Fondre (Alfie as he is affectionately known) is a striker that puts the ball in the back of the net. I'd say he's a better finisher than Hooper, and his link up play is better than Hooper's. I don't think he's as quick as him though.

As for the fee, well if his contract wasn't up in the summer, I'd say £750k would be half of what we should be asking for him (especially given Rochdale's sell-on clause). However, given his contract situation, I'd be more than content with £750k, despite how sharp he has looked so far this season.

I stopped being able to take you seriously after that bit. So St. Mirren are a class below League 2 teams? :97:

I'd say its fair to say if st mirren were in league two they would be going for promotion, but I don't think they would be good enough to make it out of league one. So he's not that far out

Exactly mate, sometimes you get the luxury of rolling the dice. There is a good chance Le Fondre wouldn't be able to cut it at Celtic, but there also a chance he's a diamond in the rough. One thing is clear - his goal record is very good, and he deserves a bigger team than Rotheram. Maybe Celtic is too big, but for a nominal fee then why don't we find out! We might just be surprised! Plus, if a Championship team picks him up and he does well with them, then there is a good chance we'll be priced out by the next team that take an interest - Shane Long for example. As it stands, Leeds are sniffing around him. Some people are saying that he's too similar to Hooper, but think about it this way:

1 Gary Hooper + injury = Zero Gary Hoopers.

If we sign him as backup for Hooper, then I doubt the boy is gonna complain considering where he's coming from. Celtic would be a dream for him. If he fails then * it, if the price is low then oh well!

Btw, if not saying he's the target-man we are after. I still think we need a player of that ilk, anyway.

Always seems to be in the goals in League 2, don't know why no one in the Championship has taken a punt on him in the last couple of years...

Could he hack it at Celtic though, there's only one way to find out as people have said, what did we expect from Hooper? Granted he did play in the Championship but he's exceeded all expectations.

I think there was a couple of teams from the League 1 who fancied a punt on him. His name always seems to crop up on Soccer Saturday when Rotherham have scored so i think he would be worth the gamble! I mean its a league 2 team....doubt they will be wanting millions for him. Worth a gamble i think
