Ok maybe not perfect but by far the best in the SPL and I don't think the signing of Barton will have a big enough say in if we win the league or not. I agree that Barton is better than Brown and if Brown were to leave I would be more than happy with Barton as a replacement.

Surely we should be looking to looking to improve our weaknesses as to adding to our strengths. No point in having talented midfielders on the bench if we don't have a good enough goalkeeper and could still do with another CB and a striker.

 

Folk need to get off their high horses here, just about everyone has made mistakes in their lives, Barton is no different, hes had his troubles in the past, and he seems to have learned from it, and has kept clean for 3 years now. Footballing wise, which is ultimately what we are looking at he is, by far better than any midfielder we currently have at the club, anyone that disagrees is obviously overrating and staying somewhat 'loyal' to our players, I don't see Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal looking at Brown or Ledley, and anyone close to the level he is at would be Kayal. Kayal and Barton alongside Commons, Ledley, Ki or Brown would boss every game, without a doubt.

IMO we will not get him, his wages are too high and frankly he is too good for the SPL, he will go to one of the Premier League teams. If we want the best for this football club, which I'm sure all Celtic fans want, then why would we reject an opportunity to sign a player of Barton's caliber?

We were after Bellamy, hes no angel, we were after Garra Dembele, people weren't against signing him, as someone mentioned Hartson kicked Berkovic in the face, but he is one of the nicest guys in football, everyone has history that we would rather forget, but whats done is done, we are a football club, that sign the best football players we can get, Barton would be the best footballer at the club or at least in midfield, who gives a * what he was like 3 years ago.

 

this would be one step closer to making it perfect.

near perfect is barcalonas midfield, and i think as a club u have to strive for the bets you can possibly get adn not be satisfied.

he's a great player, there's no doubting that. i feel he'd self destruct if he came here and disturb a harmonised dressing room.

if he did come, and that's a massive 'if', it'd be the end of Brown's career at Parkhead. some will be glad of it. i feel it's too much of a risk.

 

I'd swap Brown for Barton everyday of the year.

 

aye but since he's contracted to them but surely they can say no to certain teams and the deal could be sweetened for them.. win win

Why would anyone want him? Why should players who are not thugs or full of themselves like Ledley or Ki be dropped for this reptile who if he comes here I guarantee he will get us fined by the SFA because the minute someone like Black or McCuloch puts in a bad tackle the plastic hardman will go off his nut.

 

Why would anyone not want him? He'd be our best player, infact he'd be the best player in the SPL. I wonder if this was someone like Messi, what would everyone be saying then, 'hes a world beater, but he's been in trouble in the passed, why would we want someone like that?' It's as if people are saying Celtic are too good for players that have been in trouble, I want our team to succeed, to do that we need quality players, why would you turn down someone of the quality of Barton, who would be our best player?

You can't compare Joey Barton to Lionel Messi. It'd be an entirely different story.

 

because first of all .. our midfield is already strong and we dont need him. Just because hes an premiership player doesnt give him a right to walk into out side ?

2nd .. hes got a list as long as your arm , with issues off the park. Man city his former club gave him so many chances and he kept acting the * . Making headlines right left and centre . Hes another diouf. Let rangers take barton. He'd be welcomed there

 

what an absolutely ridiculous comparison. you're comparing a man who is known in the footballing world to keep his head down and stay away from headlines with a thug who put out his cigar on a youth players eye.

 

Both would be the best players at our club, so say we were one of the elite teams and Messi came available for a free, we wouldn't take him because he has had issues off the park, people would say thats just stupid, now back to reality we would not be able to get Messi, but when a player like Barton who is better than Brown, Ledley, Ki and the only one close to his ability in midfield is Kayal, and we say no because he has had issues of the park, I would say thats just stupid as well. Our midfield is good, but it can be better, and Barton would make it better.

Its not just because hes a premiership player, its because hes a class above anyone we have at the club in midfield.

How long has Barton kept clean off the park? 3 years? Diouf is constantly in trouble, theres no comparison, I would agree if Barton has recently been in trouble but he hasn't. If Barton was to go to R*ngers, we would wish we would've got him, trust me.
