A top keeper does not require to prove his fitness/ability in a trial with an SPL club. Thats the reality.

However a guy who was once a top keeper does need to prove that he is still in a condition to play, if he hasn't played for a year.

Should add that I am in favour of us signing Pletikosa.

As long as his knee is fine, I am happy.

And OK, this may be agent hype, but it did melt my heart a bit:

Pletikosa sounds like the Croatian version of Given only on a free transfer.
Capped a lot for his country, even capped when not playing for his club.
Hasnt been getting games but still regarded as a quality keeper.
    Liked by most other players.

Pletikosa set for Hoops medical not trial - Agent

    Last Updated: Wed, 13 Jul 2011 14:35

The agent of Croatian goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa insists he will be going to Celtic to undergo a medical and not a trial spell.

It was reported on Tuesday that the 32-year-old Spartak Moscow shot-stopper was set to link up with Neil Lennon's side on their return from the current pre-season tour of Australia.

However, the suggestions that Pletikosa, who enjoyed a loan spell with Tottenham last term, is set for a trial to try and impress Lennon into signing him are wide of the mark, according to agent Marko Naletilic.

"If Stipe was having to go to Celtic on trial then he would not be going," Naletilic told the Scottish Sun. "He is going to undertake a long medical visit.

"Celtic want to check his knee because he hasn't played for a long time. It's about his fitness rather than his ability. He is 32 and has won 82 caps for his country.

"Celtic want to be confident about his knee but we are also sure he will prove he can handle things.

"With all respect, at the stage of his career right now, he would not go on trial to Real Madrid."

    good a medical:50:

    Medical/trial, merely terminology.

He is coming to medically trial his knee, that covers all bases. He isn't coming for a medical pending transfer per se.

HARRY REDKNAPP has assured Neil Lennon that Croat keeper Stipe Pletikosa would be a top signing for Celtic.

The Spurs boss had Spartak Moscow goalie Pletikosa on loan last season.
He only featured once in the Carling Cup, with Heurelho Gomes the No1 at Spurs. But Redknapp said: "Stipe's a great lad and a very good keeper.
"He is very experienced and was unlucky not to play more games, but his lack of action was certainly nothing to do with his ability or attitude.
"I liked him very much and he was a top class boy.
"Stipe could do a great job for Celtic. He's got loads of international caps and would be more than good enough."
Pletikosa, who has 82 caps for Croatia, suffered a cruciate ligament injury two years ago.
But agent Marko Naletilic said: "Stipe's in fantastic physical condition.
"He's NOT going to Celtic on trial. It is only to prove his knee is strong.
"Stipe is a top quality keeper and is excited about the idea of playing for Celtic."
Meanwhile, Emilio Izaguirre will make his return from injury in Celtic's friendly with Partick Thistle today.
The Honduran ace has been out of action since he pulled out of his country's Gold Cup squad with a hamstring problem back in May.
Izaguirre missed Celts' pre-season trip to Australia to stay at Lennoxtown and undergo treatment on the injury.

We should sign him. He is a great goalie, he would love it here from what I've read about him, his personality and fondness for Celtic.

If he does sign and performs well for us then great, if not we can try and get Gordon on a bosman.

my favoured scenario would be to sign Pletikosa on a free, then in January sign Gordon & Lee Wallace on bosman's for next summer.

Send Cervi out on loan this season to see what he's made of.

(ideally we would have snapped up Westwood on a free)

lets get this guy and Musona signed , and it will make my year.
the league will be pretty much wrapped up by Christmas.
i can see McCoist totally *, especially in his 1st year.
look how badly the Manky mob played when he was left in charge at the start of each game before Uncle Walter came downstairs and gave them a boot up the backside.

    IS HE ACTUALLY FREE?

His contract is still with Spartak is it not?

They apparantly value him at 3million Euros, but clearly don't want him due to their foreigner rules.

So we would probably have to pay for him - as far as I can gather.

Where did the free, come from?

I saw the Celtic coaching staff out in Melbourne on Tuesday night. Got chatting and they were hoping this signing will be announced on Monday. I'm sure not many will believe me, but that's what I was told.

would love that to happen. would be a long shots with lots of 'ifs' but would vastly improve the team.
